I'm looking at that play again from different perspectives and I think you're right. The defender (I believe) is playing the ball and misses. He BARELY hits Robbens toe and Robben full out launches his body to the ground.
It's a penalty but very sad way to end a great game.

Port, Marquez stepped on Robben's foot. Both Roberto Martinez and Michael Ballack thought it was a foul. I think those guys have decent cred.

Replay is needed in soccer and red cards for a flop. Until then, you'll have these BS games called by a ref who can't possibly see the entire field. It's not a "beautiful" game.
One of the most beautiful things about soccer is that players must accept that the ref will make erroneous and possibly even malicious calls. That's far better preparation for life than any "American" sport. Learning that sh#t happens and that being better, or being right is not always enough is a lesson that most kids don't learn anymore.

I was just about to type how disappointing the Ticos have looked when Ruiz sent the seeingeye
ball into the net! Greece has been a pleasant surprise in this match but they really need to read
up on the offsides rule, eh?

Costa Rica just do a fine job on that back line. They have done it regularly and been solid.
Greece sure got lucky with that missed hand ball and...
To win as a result of such an obvious flop is sad.
