I don't think it's gotten better. It seems to me that there are more non-climbing threads than ever. Climbing threads disappear quickly because of the paucity of posts that they get. I wish there was something better out there, but that doesn't appear to be the case.
ST is also a little too California/centric for my taste. The wonderful thing about climbing is how it brings people from different cultures and countries together, and you don't get much of that on ST, and, if you did, those kind of threads would quickly disappear from the first page.
Those criticisms aside, I guess it's still the best place to go.
edit: Chris is doing his best, he delivers a lecture about OT threads from time to time. It's an open forum and people vote with their posts.

For about 24 hours after the whack-a-mole event the forum rose to its potential, IMO. Even the political thread became a constructive discussion with John E holding forth as the rational conservative. The thread was interesting for a change before falling off the front page. For that moment (Friday evening?) threads on the front page were climbing related; the mood positive.
How quickly we have descended back to the lowest common denominator…
It is interesting to see who was whacked versus those not; but Blue, if you are going to look at it through political specs then it really seems a fairly even split.
Mostly a lurker here now, I posted more in the beginning of the forum. When the “real deal” guys and gals started showing up here I thought it was time to shut up and listen. I have regreted my reactionary posts since. The forum I would like to see is what we had for that brief moment where people post their best stuff.
Regardless I am, like others, addicted to this place. Hi, my name is Gary, and I am an ST addict.

I'm pretty much in agreement with you regarding fattrad, FortMental and Wescrist. With Wes & FM, it seems likely it was related primarily to graphics that stepped over the line (LEBPhallusHead, Sarah Vagi-Palin face)- sure, they both had some negativity in their tone, but Wes in particular contributed tons of climbing content.
With fattrad & skipt, the rationale seems different- they were both prolific posters, and their tone had become very, very negative.
Whether any of these guys were climbers, how much they posted about climbing, which political side of the fence they were on...is completely besides the point. You seem to want to see these boots as some kind of political conspiracy against the poor, oppressed ST Republicans. Stop being a victim, bluering. You're smarter than that.
