Murcy, since the prize is a muffin and not thousands of dollars I guess the 13-minute runners do not feel the need to show up ;) Their loss - it is a fun cross country course with short steep hills.

Just found a sweet 35 mile loop, which is actually flat-ish (rare around here). My goal was 2 hours, but I missed it by a couple minutes.

I'm riding a SS 'cross bike set up for a steep commute, so I was undergeared on the flat at 42:17. New wheels will be in next week with a 15T fixe option that should make the rolling/flat stuff more fun!

20 mile long run (jog really).
omg omg omg omg, could barely limp the .3 miles from the course to my house, then could barely move for a few hours. I have a premonition of what moving as a 90-year-old person may be like.
I'm really impressed by real distance runners--(I'm a poser hoping to do a first-time marathon in under 4:00, but no big deal either way).

I'm with blah. I've done a lot of hack, long distance running and I think that not being very goodat it took athe pressure off. I can just enjoy the adventure. Hats off to the real runners!

Another Delicate arch jaunt yesterday....

Taking the kids up Tiger mtn this afternoon. 7 and 9 year olds are fast but my 3 year old is only good for about 1 mile and 1000' up. That leaves ~1 mile with 1000' more with him on my back.

Rainier in 2 weeks. Gonna try skinning up for the first time. Yeehoo!

One hour 34 minutes, combo run, very short walks to keep my heart rate in 140-145 range. It is feeling wonderful! Susan

The plan - Happy Girl's Half Marathon in Bend preceded by climbing at Smith.

Reality - Snowed at Smith, so we didn't climb. Took advantage of coupon to buy emergency tights at REI for the 1/2 marathon. It was not 60 and sunny as promised. Battled headwinds and lack of training to finish with a time that I refuse to say out loud. Still collected hardware and had a gorgeous run. Must do this one again, particularly with a little bit of preparation.

Now scaling back, but not sitting on the coach.

Been taking a few laps around the block during the week, also plan to start hitting up the sauna and steam room again to help open up those dry Alveolar ducts hurting from winter air.

Anyone else notice the benefits of time spent in a steamroom and sauna on overall performance?

It is time to see if all this work will pay off. I am off to Alaska tomorrow.

It was very hard, but I skipped an invitation to climb Mt. Hood in what looked to be perfect weather and just loaned out gear. All weekend, I was a bit whiney about that. I would never forgive myself if I blistered, twisted an ankle, or otherwise damaged myself a few days before going to Denali. My buddies informed me that the weather forecasters were wrong, the the winds were wicked on top. I must be a bad friend, because that made me feel better.

To take my mind off of this year's snow obsession, we hit the rock for real for the first time over the weekend. Delightfully the leads of old familiar climbs 5.7 - 5.9 went well. Perhaps I should not have jumped on the 10c at the end of the day. My fingers informed me that either 1) weight work is no substitute for climbing or 2) I am getting arthritis. Love the souvenir pains that followed.

June is when the rescue team I belong to is very busy with missions and training. Had a great time testing new recruits. Their faces are priceless when I "casually" take the basket from them at the end of the test. Yes, Rescue Randy ain't getting any lighter, but the last four months of weight training have turned back the clock. We had a fun mission retrieving two 13 year olds from the canyon below the bungee jump. They weren't badly hurt. The raise was over 200', and the boys have stopped bitching about why do we need to learn how to pass a knot.

Lifted lightly three times this week. Ran only 3 - 6 miles a day this week. Started taking gingko. My energy level is rising faster than the flooding on the local rivers. My weight is rising, too. That mountain better take 10 pounds off of me!

I'll check in when I get back. I only have 7 weeks then to get into shape to captain a Hood to Coast team. That is a blast, the "Mother of All Relay Races". I'm very worried about the much lower running totals this year. Rock climbing and rescue dominates the late summer and early fall agenda. Being light will be right....

That would be a blast. The van decorating, the team colors, the tolerance of less than civilized conditions, ability to field dress blisters - it would work. I am currently assuring some of my team mates that headlamps work, it isn't dangerous to run in the dark in the country, .... You all probably have all the required gear.

Add to that my husband is always my team massage therapist......

Started my spring 'get-back-in-shape' thing. One hour slow run followed by a half hour swim. The road back is definitely never peaches and cream for the first month...

All in time. Don't know where to begin. 10 weeks so far, amazing opportunity, mostly Moab / Indian creek, 16 gigs of photos. Right now it's 40 degrees and windy in vedauwoo (8k') 3G for phone, no wifi for computer. This'll have to wait till I'm under a roof ( a structure, not a feature) sometime. It'll happen though...

Seamstress I will be thinking of you on your Alaska adventure. You will have such a great time and being in such great shape will make it such a pleasant experience. Looking forward to the photos and report!

I ran another 5K race last night during a spectacular thunderstorm. The lightning was very bright. I got my carrot cake muffin for placing second in age group. I am age 38 so at the upper end of the 30-39 group. I will actually be relieved to turn 40 where hopefully I can place better LOL.

Then I ran 8 miles home. The city actually smelt fresh in the rain and scents from trees and flowers in residential areas were magnified. Considering Manhattan usually smells of urine during the hot summer months it was a relief :)

Yow quarter of a man himself!
Well though it's 39 in the campground this morning, I think I'll stick with the earthborn spirit. The sun is out and it's time for a trail run after I finish yesterday's mocha.
