I was in Red Rock for two weeks and had a great time, but God, I wish I had been there; I've climbed with so many of the people in those photos, Gene, Barb, Sue R., Ivan, Rich, Bob, Eliot, Annie, and so on. Cheers to all!

I just registered but can't figure out how to include photos and captions. Help (not the climb)! Got lots of good fall foliage and reunion pics. I also have good 70's and 80's photos when ever I can get my hands on a slide scanner. That stuff will be for the future.

Great to see eveyone one speak at R&S Friday eve. Always some good stories, never have seen the house packed so full! Even Lynn Hill had to sit up in the office to see it (The nose bleed section ;)

Here is shot from that Friday morning:

I can't remember the last time I saw Richie Romano! it doesn't look like he's changed a bit. If any of you are in contact with him, tell I said Hi. I have a photo of him, taken in 1975 that I'll post when I get home.

The earliest travelers arrive for Gunks II. Ivan Rezucha, Laura and Gene Smith heading to the Near Trapps.
Laura and Gene. Laura was the constant energy behind this reunion as well as last year. What started out as a dinner for a few couples turned into a reunion for three generations of crag rats.
A reunion crowd at "Bonnie's Roof" area.

A grand time was had by all with many planning to keep this going. RC

As PM reported above, there was an incredible Reunion 2008 gathering at the Mohonk Preserve on Saturday Evening 18 October. Three generations of climbers were well represented.

Glen Hoagland, Director of the Mohonk Preserve; Hank Alicandra, Lead Ranger and all the Mohonk Preserve personnel were extremely hospitable and supportive of Reunion 2008. Here's a Rick Cronk photo of Glen Hoagland speaking to the crowd:

Bobby D'Antonio was outstanding as the Master of Ceremonies. He told the group about his first experience in the Gunks when he met a waiter at a local restaurant named Kevin Bein who took him out climbing. Bobby concluded by saying these words:
"This reunion is important. We are all here today together. Who knows what tomorrow will bring."

Here's Bobby D speaking:

Jim McCarthy said a few words about Fritz Weisner, Hans Kraus and the first generation of Gunks climbers. Rick Cronk took this photo:

Jim Donini, Current President of the American Alpine Club thanked the Mohonk Preserve for their leadership in being such good stewards of the Shawangunk range and treating climbers with respect and understanding. Jim also described the new American Alipine Club Campground and what a benefit it will be for all climbers. Rick Cronk took this photo of Jim:

Henry Barber gave a meaningful and eloquent keynote address that tied the whole Gunks Reunion together. Henry was very complimentary to those climbers who preceeded as well as followed him. Henry saluted the traditional climbing ethic that is followed so fervently in the Gunks, as well as the sense of community, as being unique. He felt that the Shawangunks, and the people who climb there, inspired him to excell in climbing areas around the world.

Henry Barber speaking:

These are just a few attendees.

Steve Wunsch, John Bragg and Rich Perch

Claude Suhl, one of the original Vulgarians, and Rich Ross.

Jordan Mills with the 4th and future generation.

Mark, we've never met, but, after the Preserve's reception, there were some slide presentations. A photo of you popped up, followed by a quick chorus of "HUD! Where's Hud?" You and many other's were sorely missed at what was otherwise a well attended reunion. Plan on 2010, the 75th Anniversary of Gunks climbing. RC

I'm honored!

I was never a bigtime Gunks climber but I did spend some time there and knew a few of the locals.

It had been so long since I climbed, the past two reunions reignited my interest. Being up on the rock and seeing old friends has been great. Maybe someday, I'll be able to afford climbing at Skytop once again. Here's a shot of the "Promised Land" from The Duck Pond two weeks ago. RC
