Wow, beautiful photographs lately. And good words, too. Thank you, thank you.
Mouse, I hope you are feeling better.

I have doused the last slash burn pile for this week, put away Colt's marshmallows until his reappearance, and am enjoying a day of not being out in the crisp spring air. Actually, I am out in it, but not in smoke today. It is a day off from forest work.

The sandhill cranes are here, headed to Fairybanks. The snow geese are flocking all along Lake Helena. The turdus migratorius have been flocking in our apple trees, but I think they are soon heading off to Fairybanks, too. The beautiful mountain bluebirds are singing and dancing their courtship dances, and taking up residence in their bird houses that Doug made for them out of old barn boards from the North Fork. The Crossbills are here in large numbers. A raft of ruddy ducks are resting out on the lake. I have a beautiful vixen, who visits frequently at the edge of the deeper forest, watching me as long as I avoid eye contact. There are six whitetail deer at the pond. A fearless chipmunk ran across my shoe and startled me when I was out on the patio.

And off to the south, the snow-splotched, shadowed north faces of the Divide are soft images, caught in the drift of haze which is the smoke from all our slash burns. Sometimes, I can see strings of smoke wafting neatly in the thermal layers of air. It is a beautiful Spring day here on the Divide, and that is the full report. :)

Yeah, hooblie, that sort of report is gare-on-teed to make you want to pick up and move to a place like Slide Rule, MT, across the Divide.

I've calculated that I'm happy here, it's never too dark here, nor too light; not too warm, not too cold; it's not Paradise, but it's not Hell.

Lately, it's been sort of a Limbo. I'll be relieved when all my ills are at rest. Meanwhile, counting troubles is just as tiring as counting sheep. I'll be sad to go, but glad to get wherever I'm going.

Across the Great Divide.

That was a great report, ff. It would be tough to have to leave that spot you live in. :0)

Speaking of things that needed to be seen with a painters eye, before they were cut down,
These trees, the way they anchored a spotthey were frnds to us who visited,
old succulent willow trees at the edge of a 300 Y'R old pond, in the midst of urban blight.

The snap that I like, not quite a blur, fuzzy at bestis the top of the Sugar Hollow,
not at the Gunks
I hesitate to point out 17 different climbs . , . . .

They're practicing real hard for the new Olympic event of riding a skateboard street-style and target-shooting, Nerdic Combined.
Scottie's their skate coach. I don't know their instructors on the firing line.
