When you're down with a cold in Merced
And it's Eastertime too
And your coughing's worse
And Tylenol and Kleenex won't pull you through
Don't put on any airs
When you're on Santa Fe Avenue
They got some very strange ducks there
And they really make a mess on the lawn

Nice shots...like my efforts, it's a bit redundant and so forth, but the shots show the Gunks off well, for those who've only seen shots of the climbing there.
More sparks and fireworks courtesy of neebee and her postage fairy.I like how you recycle by use the boxes and envelopes in which you ship things. There are several postal service boxes here and I'd like to get them to you. I'll save everything for Christmas and send them in November.
Tree saved.
Thank you, too, for the little instruction book. I think there must have been millions of these given to others. We sold enough little instruction books when I was with BDalton Bookseller to fill a small branch library.
One page always appealed to me: "The most valuable gift you can give is a good example..."
We had lasagne today at the Rescue Mission. Been some time since I was over there. The food and the service was provided by a group of Merced Collegians. Garfield-approved, MFM-certified, but no seconds.

WTF? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now you're collecting stamps.
I'll send ya a couple "Jimis" - I don't leave home without them.
Buying stuff and getting it delivered is most likely a net environment gain for our world, since folks aren't jumping in their cars as often. Do those delivery trucks run on electricity or natural gas yet.
I've been wondering about all the boxes though myself.
I've been flattening them out and then the "servicio non particular" guys take 'em down to TJ and build houses out of them for the cumbia crowd.
Now this is a heartbreaker.

feralfae recommended CHICKEN SOUP for my ailments!
Gal's a-settin' fahr to the woods with a young buck today.
She's burning slash with her godson Colton.
Sister Lenna (lennypenny not henny penny) tells me that she went down into Mercer Caverns at Murphys with her grandson Kelton yesterday. Last time for her, she said...it's sixteen storeys underground, only stairs to get there and back.
I'm recommending a longish nap, like I just had.
Peace unto you all over this weekend.
Coast Range.

Vagabond
Spurred by memories Mister Mouse
I found my way through climbing when
Trouble came there by and by
I'd lost my way most times before
But we lost a brother way back then
And heartbreak came to days of yore
I searched for him on crags and peaks
With hope to find his spirit for
I doubled my efforts twice again
To climb much harder than before
In towering gold the Captain did
Speak words that I'd not heard 'till then
My first time on that voyage so
Up the Salathe we'd go
Was thirty five years so long ago?
My advocate and impetus
Tobin and charming Mister E
And me no longer just a boy
They spurred on so much more in me
The list of requisite grade fives
Half Dome direct the year before
Those four days leading every pitch
Still left my dance card unfilled
My family name required much more
Twas time to quell the Captain's itch
E E had little patience with
The thought of failure so we set
Sail with four days weather clear
We fixed and rested on our bet
Then jugged and bivied on Lung Ledge
Near Hollow Flake to hold my fear
The run out off width standard fare
No wide gear for us way back then
An alcove shower below the spire
In a dampened bag the least my care
As the headwall loomed so ominous
O'er the block pitch which was soaked in mire
My off route tilt at Sous Le Toit
Left Mister E a dour mood
Though sorted out to my disgrace
I only wished we'd brought more food
With a day like no other day
We swung to overhanging space
With sky above and sky below
The headwall led to heavens gate
We topped out dry the next day
And to east ledges found our way
Too tired for exhalations
Hot food and showers would not wait
The taste once had now hard to sate
Scant days went by 'fore Harding's route
Reeled me in with no remorse
With a prescient Norwegian
His first El Cap his God of Norse
And I was taken by it all of course
When walls began to hurt too much
'Round ninety two or then
I climbed a few a few times more
And finishing the Arrow Direct
On a tyrollean off the Arrow tip
A raven called like a long lost friend
Torn ligaments and cartilage
The price was worth the voyaging
Though now I'm just a vagabond
Remembering what those times did mean
Thanks for that Sir Mercedean
For we've seen more than most have seen

Aye, that's the siren call, lad.
It's been 42 years since my Salathe Wall crawl.
We were slowed by dense fog caused by La Marijuana and snow brought by El Nino, but he was only an illegal alien back then.
It was the wrong turn below Sous-le-Toit that screwed us up. My lead, too.
Too bad there was no sign in place with this message:
All part of My Seventies Show.
That was a great TR, Bushman! Merci beaucoups!

A view to the east up Merced River from Mt. Clark.
Jim Shirley photo.
A stand of eucalyptus trees in Santa Cruz near the San Lorenzo River.
The patio staircase inside the grounds of the old La Bahia Motel opposite the Beach at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk.
Sunrise in San Francisco.
Rails heading north on the coast from Santa Cruz next to Highway 1.

the trees below were cut down ,
Taken, old trees, not hurt in' anyone,
no threat from boughs or branches ,
but that is how the man got it done,
took away the shade from the good hangout spot
Claiming a hazard, was looming from the branches,
Dropping boughs...
Sad to not see that shade,
while walking there in the coming months

zBrown, where in heck ya think Werner's been these last few days, anyway?
Habana Libre, I, 5.12c. FA, Werner Braun, free solo.
Bummer, man! I LOVE the trees out my window. They are old friends of long standing--I've lived here now for nearly fifteen years.
Gnome, you've been a fine addition to the roster. Have a HAPPY EASTER!

However,

I agree with ff - chicken soup is very helpful.
Probably not best practices, but when I feel really ratty (ask Rizzo for definition), I help myself to a couple of my mom's left over vicodins. Aids the sleep process. I hope to wake up cured.
RE: Der Doktor und Der Herr
The ez answer is that they flew us independently (you know what they say about the advisability of the whole management team taking the same flight) to Quantico to hack out the iPhone.
The cover was that we were to teach surfing and climbing skills to the agents.
The take-away. FBI agents are really lame with respect to their musical tastes (and a couple of pairs of cheap latex gloves). Gimme a NY City cop anyday. Don't mind the maggots.
Love, as they say, is stronger than dirt.
