“I remember looking over a sea of people and everyone was really
happy and full of enthusiasm,” remembered Hackworth. “The music was
the catalyst that drew us together. It really was a time of believing
in love and peace for humanity.”
Stepanie Minasian article from 2009 on the October, 1969, Amador Rock Festival near Ione, CA.

Santana was there.[Click to View YouTube Video]
Missed out on this one. First I've ever heard of it was this morning!
It was in my email from Mike Kennedy of MercedMusic today.
Fits with the earlier posting about Altamont that was written by Steve Cassady, if one could only find it...

It is rumoured, but not established that Santana was also here.
Popotla Baja California
Al Capone's house near Popotla, though he hasn't lived there since at least when Santana moved north to Merced.

La familia. This family was out last night on Main St. during our annual CAP & TOWN Friday. I did not see them perform and don't know what style they dance.
While looking for possibilities, I struck this article, which may be of interest to Terpsichoreans out there. As usual, there is more to the subject than I ever thought might exist.

There was a climbing tower set up across the street from the used bookstore, the first one I have ever seen in Merced. It was from Auburn, where they have two auxiliary towers, all connectable to the air on this one, for larger crowds.

Good old Mary Anning of Lyme Regis, as noted today by Google, discovered a fossil known as "devil's fingers" in the local shoreline fossil beds.
They were abundant, shall we say. They are the Official Fossil of the state of Delaware
As you may have learned and of which you're very well aware.
I'm not so devilishly fickle
I really just want a motorcycle.
So I took off looking for Jurassic Choss on Google Images.
Came up right away with a video of a string of misbegotten attempts on a route in Colorado that, admittedly,
had never registered with me as a route, let alone a famous "Classic" route until someone posted a pic of it this week.

My vision is poor and my glasses are old. These are a blurry bunch, but I can only try.
The autofocus connection on my telephoto lens is not functioning, so I must use the manual focus instead.

May be time to focus in closer, say for example on the genome of the termite.
The first termite genome fills a gap in social inset genomics
It's not the question "Are you social?", but rather "Are eucoscial?"
http://www.sciencecodex.com/the_first_termite_genome_fills_a_gap_in_social_inset_genomics-134092
"The termite genome reveals many unique genetic targets that can be disrupted for better termite control," said Scharf, who is the O. Wayne Rollins/Orkin Chair in Molecular Physiology and Urban Entomology. "Depending on which gene or protein that is targeted, we could disrupt termites' neurological processes, molting, digestive factors or cuticle formation. We're just limited by our imagination."

Some social ants, by way of proving the old adage, "it's always something".
One feature could have provided a big help in identifying the species, the male genitalia. This, however, was missing, as ants had gobbled up these vital parts while the male dried up in the Rwandan heat, the researchers noted.

zBrown, none of the termite technical tracts are available to users without Drupal, whatever. We are just TOO PRIMITIVE.
Buncha savages.
Like at the old Preston Acadamy in Ione!
Located at the end of Palm Drive in Ione, in the scenic Sierra Nevada foothills.
Former Preston wards include:
Eddie Anderson, best known for his role as "Rochester" in Jack Benny's radio and television programs.
Ernest Booth, discovered by H. L. Mencken, who published his stories in The American Mercury; he wrote a successful autobiography, Stealing Through Life; a novel, With Sirens Screaming; and a number of scenarios and screenplays, including Ladies of the Mob (1928) and Ladies of the Big House (1931).
Rory Calhoun, who was known as Francis McCown when he was a Preston ward in the late 1930s.
Don Jordan, joined a boxing program at Preston and went on to become world welterweight champion by defeating Virgil Akins.
Heavyweight boxer Eddie Machen graduated from Preston's boxing program and went on to fight such boxers as Ingemar Johansson, Sonny Liston, Floyd Patterson, and Joe Frazier.
Merle Haggard marked his time at Preston with a "PSoI" tattoo; his school file noted that he "likes to sing and play the guitar."
Tennis great Pancho Gonzales honed his skills on the Preston School's tennis court shortly before turning professional and has been rated by some experts as the greatest player of all time.
Neal Cassady discovered literature in the Preston School library and later was at the very center of the Beat Movement. He was the "N.C." of Allen Ginsberg's "Howl" and the model for the character Dean Moriarty in Jack Kerouac's On the Road. Cassady drove Ken Kesey and his band of Merry Pranksters on the bus named "Further" and later drove bus for the Grateful Dead.
Bill Sands wrote a best-selling autobiography, My Shadow Ran Fast, and founded the Seventh Step prisoner rehabilitation program.
Phil Thatcher became active in prison ministry, penned an autobiography, Under Arrest, and was granted a full pardon by Governor Earl Warren.
Tony Cornero made his fortune as a rumrunner during Prohibition and later built the Stardust Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
Caryl Chessman became a celebrity author while on Death Row in the 1950s.
Ray D. Johnson escaped from Preston twice and later became the first maximum security prisoner to escape from Folsom State Prison. He wrote an autobiography, Too Dangerous to be at Large.
Joseph Paul Cretzer led the bloodiest and most notorious attempted escape from Alcatraz Island. The "Battle of Alcatraz" resulted in the deaths of two guards and three inmates, including Cretzer.
Eddie Bunker became a successful author and actor, writing books like "Animal Factory" and "No Beast So Fierce," as well as appearing in films like "Reservoir Dogs," "The Running Man," and "Tango & Cash."
Keeny Teran former bantamweight contender from the 1950s. Keeny learned to fight at Preston.

Our family passed through in 1959 on our way down the valley on State 33 enroute to Santa Barbara, which we approached from the hills after coming over the pass. We did not stop, but then there was no prison.
Never had occasion to go through there again.
I-5 is the way to go now, and there is a McDonald's in Kettleman City, so it's like you really don't need to stop, just drive through munching on your Chicken McNuggets.
I'm sneaking this in...good video. Apparently, McNuggets are NOT made from live chicks tossed into a hopper, as the rumor mongers suggest.

If you get stranded here on the corner without the poorboys, could it be truthfully said that you're stuck right outside of Lodi again?
Oh lord (for a Christian nation).
At least there should be something to drink.
