hey there, say, all... was helping my older friend today, and, well:

:O we nearly had spring, :O

hard to believe... and, our spring is most likely to not
be much of a warm spring, as it 'might be is' hinted to be...
(according to accue weather) ...

was very nice, ...

more cold to come, but not more than a few days in a row, and
off and on... we shall see...

some very 'low' lows, though, off and on...

pond is still froze, :(

but say, we are not bad...
my hopes for all you folks out there in calif, and
such as to any storm system folks...

Sespe Creek running at almost 16,000cfs right now. Piru running close to 5,000 cfs and both still climbing.

Some of the heaviest, most sustained rain I've ever seen in the Tehachapis coming down right now. So glad I can hang at home and let it blow over. Stay safe out there to all who have to be in it. Freakin' crazy.

They predicted rain today, and I chickened out and left the crags west of Moab when it looked threatening. But I don't think it's actually rained yet....

Plenty of snow in the LaSals just to the east though

But I think I may have robbed myself.
They're predicting rain all through the weekend. But I may head back out, at least to the fakes...

I'd say this was an inch/hour rate for a while...

If it averages 1 inch/hr 'till tomorrow afternoon it could break the standing CA record of 21 inches in 24 hrs., which was set right here in the San Gabriels...

Great book by John McPhee with a piece on the San Gabriel Mountains, on topic with current events:

Lost power at my house this afternoon, so I decided to do some errands and hit the DMV to be productive. On the way there I snapped this in Pasadena:

But overall, I never the "shock and awe" of a big storm so far. I assume it's hitting the mountains more. I did see the Arroyo Seco finally touch both sides of the concrete basin that very effectively keeps floods at bay.

Up at Chantry Flats today watching my friend feed the Llamas, so far the remaining single lane remains intact as plastic covers the slide area..

picked up a backpacker hiking out, he had been in the san gabriels ten days and did not know the storm was coming until it arrived.

Lost power this morning. Still out. We have the frig. running off of a generator to save the food. PG&E says 3,700 without power here from downed power lines. Typing this on my I-phone. We are doing better than some of the neighbors. Gonna be some pissed off people come morning:-(

The local paper ( http://www.redlandsdailyfacts.com/general-news/20170217/southern-californians-are-asking-wheres-the-rain-be-patient ) was saying this would be the biggest storm in years, but it wasn't even the biggest one this season. By any measure. At least not here it wasn't.

1.45" of rain and zero trees blown down in my yard.

"Storm of the Century" my ass!

A storm last month dumped better than twice the rain and blew down two big pine trees here.

The power is still out here but the cable is back on so we can use our laptops. We just dropped AT&T in favor of cable for phone and internet. Not to sure about hooking our desktops or TVs to a generator yet. This is the first time we have fired that little Honda generator up since the Death Valley trip in 2008 and it is working great! I took a drive to get more gas and check out the area. Some giant trees came down in the neighborhood and took the power lines to the ground with them. A real mess. I am guessing a couple more days of no power. Off and on showers right now with another round due tomorrow. We are ready for it now:-)

Chaz, it's the same in San Diego; definitely NOT the storm of the century. Thank goodness to some degree for us as our new roof was finished up at 8am yesterday morning. We were already cutting it close....

Our neighbor up in Bishop just texted me and said 70+ roofs have collapsed in Mammoth. Yikes.
