I care if I tele

I love tele
in fact, my most fond memories of any activity that I ever experienced (on a regular occurrence) was tele skiing,
better than rock climbing? yes...sorry

and only Pure Tele Will do it, every parallel turn is just a waste,
sometimes you need to curb some speed or maybe it's icey
Nothing wrong with doing some parallel turns, but if can tele it, and of course someone can tele almost anything in the normal world, so go ahead and tele it.

Well I'm sure some folks may have different opinions..

BITD we had 2 Bumper stickers that fit those days of tele (1986-2000)

Best Day Ever
Every Tele turn is a new adventure!

Maybe there are times when tele is just fine, but with 50 pounds on my back and a month of steep up and down ahead...

...I wanted randonee gear.

Maybe if there had been the kind of serious tele boots available back then that you can get now it would have been different.

telle still has all the resistance of the spring in the cable bindings for uphill. AT bindings with my ultra light climbing boots are 100% better/easier on the uphills. My telle boots are 75% better on the downhills

Have always been a Low Rider. That comes from prying as much of the 3/4 edge Madshus BC 500's in to the snow as I could with my first pair of Asolo's,when I first started back in 84.

Craig,I agree and Ghost ,I hear you about the heavy pack skiing.

We are due to get close to another foot of snow this weekend.

Only the steepest aspects are being considered.

Man......

I agree, low riding is the way to go

Any skiing with a 50 lb pack in the backcountry is nothing more than survival skiing

In one way tele skiing is like Rock Climbing

You can do way more excellent skiing with only a light rack and chalk bag.
Or no rack at all, just a camel back and some tunes

Or you slug with heavy packs and max out at 5.6

Well you may need at 15 lb pack for some stuff, just like a medium rack and rope, like the below
Dana Couloir, that's not me, but I did ski it 3 times in the 90s

That Dana Col looks sweet!

So I headed out yesterday to ski

Numerous white outs,40 + mph winds and -3f when I left the house.

I skied up a 1400 ft aspect that rarely comes into condition. It faces the SW and takes awhile to fill in.

It was great skiing.
I got about half way down when I heard a loud rumble.

I stopped and looked back up hill, thinking it was an Avalanche. After all I was skiing a true landslide,it has been known to slide before.

It was not,It was Thunder and then more ,with a couple of flashes of lightning .All during a heavy snowfall.

Unreal.

Later ,that evening ,it ice rained,it was still -3f.

Two things I have never seen.

Did not someone already ski Half Dome?
