Thanks Jefe. I was talking to a gentleman Trevor in here today, who went in for thumb surgery and somehow after the surgery during transfer ended up twisting his spine and not being able to walk anymore. My jaw dropped to the floor after that story.

Anyways we were talking about positive vs negative attitude and he was saying that most of the people that he saw here in gf strong who had positive approaches towards their recoveries were the ones who made the most gains, and the negative ones tended to stall out. I'm glad I have always leaned towards the positive side and that gives me even more incentive to stay that way!!!

Haikus for Mike Who’s In a Cage Not a Rage--Even Acts His Age!

Even the odd egret
Errs egregiously. Even
Odder, otters.

Eager for egress
Even eagles examine
Every elevator.

What would be the odds
Of Big Mike making his bird
From there tomorrow?

Astronomical.
Nothing is impossible,
However, is it?

One day you’ll decide
That tomorrow and the doors
Will be opened wide.

Hell of a sequel that film is. I nearly pooped when he muffed up that heel hook. I think his gear would have held though so no biggie.

Bumpin soundtrack. Good olde rock n roll.

Sunday mellow Sunday... Yesterday was great. A nice mellow start with 11.5 hours of sleep under my belt for a change. After breakfast I did some taco'ing and then Anders showed up and we had a nice conversation over my lunch. Then we headed down to the computer lab so I could post up my photos from Saturday night faster.

Anders lurking on the taco

We went outside for a bit, but it wasn't very nice out there, so we went back to my room because Tricouni was supposed to show up at any moment, but he had not arrived yet. Back downstairs again I bid Anders a good day and Tricouni showed up as we were parting.

Tricouni and I went upstairs and had an excellent conversation about the days of Squamish lore and showed me his u-wall pin, and his Dick Culbert: A Climber's Guide to the Coastal Ranges of British Columbia.

Which is in amazing condition and is being auctioned for my benefit. Current high bid is only 150 bucks! This historical treasure should go for way more. Go bid in on it!!

Then he asked me about my humble beginnings. After what seemed like a few minutes, but was actually a couple of hours he had to take his leave and I saw him to the door.

After eating my "pseudo dinner" provided by the good folks at gf strong I went back to my room and snoozed through the first period of the canucklheads game, and Scrubber woke me up for our real dinner meeting.

We cruised over to the little Singaporean eatery beside the sushi place which was recently converted into a drive in restaurant by an errant elderly driver the other night.

We were weary but the place was full of Asians so we figured it had to be pretty good. We had a very nice dinner and chat. It was awesome to get out of the institution for a bit of a change of scenery.

Me eating my sweet and sour pork "white man" special. ;)

No, I have no idea what is up with my left eye.. ;)

When the started turning the lights off, we figured it was time to skidaddle, Scrubber accompanied me back to my room, and gave me a couple posters to decorate my now not so boring walls. Thanks for dinner dude! It was awesome !!

The old "smack eye" is a well known symptom of, er, "pain relief".

Baby steps. It is going to be all about baby steps.

Nutin but pain killers on that face unfortunately ... ;)

It was all about baby steps today!!!

The days are continually more awesome and sleep is returning!

"Learn by doing" has always been the way for me. Trial by fire. Had another wicked day today.

The doctors finally came to check out my surgery scar and gave the go ahead to remove half the staples today , half tomorrow. Julius my fantastic nurse, pulled 14 of them today .

*WARNING* scar photo coming!!

My surgery scar

I get the rest out tomorrow. Beyond stoked. Pool time soon!!

I went to my pt appointment and we did some awesome leg strengthening exercises. Which tuckered me out pretty good. Then she asked if I wanted to do some standing! Yes please!!

I was doing good at my stands which lead to lifting one foot while standing on the other. My pt had to brace my left knee from going wacky on me, but I was able to accomplish this task pretty well, and learning to bend both knees again instead of just locking them. I got my left knee figured ok and then she asked me to put one foot in front of the other.

I could accomplish that pretty easy so then we started doing baby steps. Right foot, left foot. And so on. I started walking with her help for my left knee.

I did three lengths of the bars, and one backwards length to get back to my chair.

Needless to say I was ecstatic!!! When I got back to my room I used my dinner table to do a standing transfer to my bed solo-style and laughed my bag off like a little girl for about 10 minutes. I was pooped to say the least.

Then after lunch I did it again to get back to the chair!! I was so pumped!! I went to my ot and met up with him. We did some more standing first with chairs and then without. It was hard to stand up with my hands on my knees, but I got it done a couple times. Then we headed up to my room to practice some standing transfers, and I did one but he wanted it to be smoother and we ran out of time so we left it at that! My legs were poached!!!

After a bit of rest and an excellent visit from my buddie Nigel, i had a recreational therapy meeting where we discussed some of my options, and I signed up for the pool evening as well as wheelchair sports, and a tai chi course. We also had a very nice about how I ended up here and my lifestyle.

I went back to my room to post up yesterday's activities and then went to the kitchen to have some of Nina's amazing butter chicken for dinner, and it was excellent as always. THANKS NINA!!

My sister and Ryan and Jesse showed up and we hung out in my room. I was pretty darn tired so I just chilled I bed as we chatted.. They brought lots of nice snacks for me and I was quite pleased to have them. Ryand showed up around 6:30 and brought some amazing looking ribs and some nice looking veggies aka tomorrow nights dinner...

Tash and those guys took off not long after be showed up because they hadn't eaten yet.

Ryan and I had an awesome chat and he lasted till about 8:30 before he had to head back to squish. Thanks for coming !!!!

Hi Mike glad to hear of your progress and your good timing on not having sushi.

Anders mentioned another restaurant fiasco,Dynamite Pizza on the sw corner of Broadway/Cambie.The guy was doing a real thorough job cleaning the ovens with gasoline = massive explosion that destroyed the whole corner both floors. He survived miraculously and nobody was hurt because it was 3 in morning. Darwin award candidate.

It's funny when I saw the brick wall in the games room I was going to say somebody should climb it and lo and behold my wish was granted. What was the grade.
Glad to see you are making the best out of the worst.
