If/when fattrad comes back, I do hope his persona adjusts a bit. I have no problem with his CapitalistRepug Cheney's-my-buddy stuff...the shift that occurred about a year ago, with the constant 8th grade namecalling ('moron' ,'piece of crap'), needs to be reset. fattrad is such a prolific poster that this kind of repetition does have an effect on the tone here. He needs to acknowledge that, take responsibility for it, and change it.

I haven't posted a TR in two years and haven't climbed for one year, ACL.
I like shooting the sh#t with people about a wide variety of topics.
I've been a climber for twenty years. Does my recent non involvement in the pursuit somehow relegate me to 'shouldn't be here' status?
Is it wrong that I start OT threads with people who have been posting with me for eight years because my body fights back when I climb?
Riddle me that.

Your posting history is a little thin on climbing related content and you sling the sh#t and insults pretty good in the polytard threads.
You are correct. I haven't been climbing in nearly a year, maybe more. Maybe you haven't heard, I'm really shaky these days and I have no balance and most strenuous activity leads to about a week of pain. These days I have to do my climbing through the camera lens of the folks posting to the supertopo.
It is a sad f*#king existence, I know. But I can't just die!!! I've still got a job to do and that means I have health insurance, which means I have a lot of bills to pay…. Isn't that reason enough to stick around?
Tell you what… You find me a post that I have slung sh#t and insults in, post the date and time and I'll get 5 times the amount which fattard slung sh#t and insults in the same period of time. Here, fattard stands alone with his insults and slung sh#t.
Think about it. Are your lies better than his lies?

(also, this implies that both Jingy and fattard "lie" that Russ Walling knows of. Since I know that I don't, I see this as "fattard knowingly lies all the time and Russ Walling knows it.")

No, of course not. My writing is no better than anyone's writing. fattard and I may be passionate about polar opposites of the political spectrum. That makes us equals. But I'm still glad he's gone.
Is your posting legacy that of an astute political thinker laying out ideas and philosophies in an intelligent fashion, or are you just a megaphone for "your" team?
Now your getting somewhere. To answer the first part: Simply NO.
Do I present myself as "astute"? Have I ever? You've met me.. I'm not that bright, am I? Do I really present myself as having ideas and philosophies and present them intelligently? I do not think so and I hope that others don't either- If so, please don't read too much into what is written on a screen. There may just be a complete nobody on the other end feebly writing just as mindlessly as anyone else.
What if I told you that I don't think of myself as "better" than anyone else? Would that change your mind about me?
What if I told you that I feel that I have a pretty healthy idea of who I am and exactly how insignificant I am, in the grand scheme of things. That does not bother me. It is exactly because I have this view that I am able to see people for who they are rather than what they are hyped to be or the image that they project. fattard may be your friend, but that only says something about who you keep as your friend (something you have some control over - who you think of as "friend") but to others he was/is a complete ass.
Hope this explains things a little better (something many people never really do until it's too late, then they slip into the "misunderstood" category and… I don't want to be in there). Plus - There are daily reminders of Why Republicans are so wrong about everything…. so I post up.

Exactly. There are probably many people on ST who would like to participate in discussions about politics and religion. I certainly would. But as long as the inflexible minds on both sides just keep screaming, what is the point?
CMac's booting of one such person is a step in the right direction. If he'd deactivate a couple more, then maybe it would be possible to have a rational discussion/debate. But as you say, inflexible mind vs. inflexible mind instantly kills that possibility. As things now stand, looking into the political forums is the internet equivalent of being forced to listen to fingernails scraping on blackboards -- amplified to 11.

Fatty and crew typify the intellectual dishonesty inherent to the "debates" engaged in on this and most every internet forum or news outlet I have observed. Nobody is entering discussions with the idea of learning something new and examining their own stances. That would be weakness, getting outmaneuvered. Very well said.
Unfortunately this is also true of the so-called "national discourse" at the moment. The frequent idiocy around here is just a reflection of our elected (or selected by the Big Givers) representatives and Faux News.
fatty, skipt and others who are still here merely parrot what they see and hear.
The worst of it is that these are the same propaganda tactics that were used by the Nazis to take over Germany and Italy. Democratically.
A lot of it started with the demonization of the Others by Reagan's most ardent supporters. And each time the Democrats have been in ascendency the Right Wing fanaticism has gotten sharper and more ideological.
I found it discouraging and not at all surprising that Huntsman, the most rational of the recent candidates was never taken seriously. I think Trump and Palin each had more support.
William F Buckley and even Goldwater are turning over in their graves.
EDIT: when I say Faux News, I mean to imply the myriad so-called "news" outlets of similar "ilk".

I've never met Fattrad personally, but we had a couple of good exchanges via PM, and he has more than once provided a semi-thoughtful answer to a serious post.
But it had been kind of going downhill lately. Too many "Tool" posts. Trolling occasionally is one thing. Trolling constantly is annoying.

bluering, you have blatantly exhibited your ignorance (chosen or unintended) of my perspective on fattrad. Consistently, I've posted that I'd like to see fattrad return, and that while his persona has devolved over the last year or so, he is an important part of this 'community', even if I don't agree with his ideology (RepugCapitalist). My support of his return has clearly been in contrast to the rest of those you would consider to be my ideologic kin (and no doubt has not endeared me).

How many is enough? Until we all sing the same tune in lock-step? Is that the goal?
I can understand some banning, but use uniform standards on a rational basis.
