still haven't heard from my secret santa receiver...hope she liked my gift, or at least received it to regift it??

anna pollock, you out there??

btw anna, i had to make your gift early b/c i was having surgery on my wrist on dec 1, and wasn't sure how long the recovery would be and wanted to make sure it got to my ss on time (the surgeon said he'd know once he opened me up, but not before...and i already signed up for s santa when i found out i had to have surgery...). anyways, it's not as personalized as i would have liked but it was still homemade. hope you like it.

the gifts on this forum are amazing! you guys all rock!!

Hey Susan,
I'm glad you like the board. Must be a good present if it passed the Polar Bear with the rat's face sniff test! It would be fun to get together sometime, sailing on the bay, that would be great.

Happy Holiday Y'all!

Been celebrating "Sickmas" and generally feeling like crap all week (sinus/respiratory infection plus coming down with the flu), so I can't describe how uplifting it was to see a box from my Secret Santa arrive! (admittedly this was the other day, but said illness kept me off the computer to post pics).

I'll pass on a pic of the box itself, as the label was WAY cooler!

My wife convinced me that being sick means I get to open it early, so inside we found...

A variety pack of hot sauce from Marie Sharps! Looks like Secret Santa was following the Hot Sauce thread a while back, where I made mention of Marie Sharps being a lot of fun due to it having a carrot base (for the regular and hot, at least). We got hooked on it years ago while in Belize (where it's made) and at the time it wasn't available in the US. Best uses are on eggs and potatoes, but we found a new one the night we opened the box... Vegetarian stuffed peppers! Specifically, veg stuffed peppers using a recipe my wife pulled from Veg Times a while back that stuffs them with quinoa, black beans and shredded carrots. OMG, was that a good combination. Had I not been sick I would have opened all of the bottles to try them. Yum!

Thanks so much Susan/SCSeagoat! It really jogged some memories of a really great vacation! Oh, the homemade cinnamon rolls at the hole in the wall joint in Cay Caulker... Mmmm...

-aric.

(btw, can pass along the recipe if anyone's interested... It's really good, and that's coming from a devout meat-eater)

Digging the gift pics (dreamcatchers, hot sauce, some doodad for bailing Kath's ass out of a crevasse! whoohoo!) but also getting a bit worried.

Hopefully someone's got a middlin'-sized box from a larger-than-middlin'-sized New England state sitting under the tree for the last week or two. If so, kudos for your patience and hope it's worth the wait.

eKat says:
Would love to see your recipes, too!

Huh. Tossed "stuffed pepper quinoa black beans" into the Google and what pops up as the first result? A link to the exact page of the exact issue of Vegetarian Times that my wife clipped the recipe out of! Guess I don't need to wait for her to tell me where she hid the paper copy...

Anyway, here's the link: Quinoa-Stuffed Pepper Recipe

And a pic:

In case it isn't obvious, what made Marie Sharps a particularly excellent hot sauce for this is that both it and the stuffing have a lot of carrot, so there was no clashing of flavors.

Agreed! Stuffed peppers are soooo good.

The camping cooking variation - cube the peppers and parboil to soften just a bit.

Cook the stuffing mixture on stovetop, add peppers, top with shredded cheese, cover and let the heat melt cheese.

EEEEEAAAATTT!!!!

mmmmm

I have used couscous instead of rice also, for camp cooking. Much quicker(less fuel use).

Me neither, guess my Santa is late. I'll be out of town tomorrow through Tuesday so he has a few days to catch up. Hopefully I'll get a late surprise. :-)

zander-

Heard from Santa today. He said one package has been delivered but he found another one in the warehouse. Due to his current backlog he will have to deliver it next year.

Don't use your fireplace the second week of January or you may end Christmas forever...

I think my santa knows that I have no self control, and the only hope of a Christmas day gift opening would be if my gift arrived on the 24th.

m.watson-
This really made my day!

Me too! I also find it hard to put the puzzle down. Glad you enjoyed it!
