Kudos to Peter for his "intriguing" posts! Peter, you appear to be aging gracefully- any secrets?

Only met him once. I think it was '82 or something like that, first time in the Valley for me. People laughed when they saw our Oklahoma license plates, as if climbers could come from such a place.
A lot of giants were still walking around Camp 4 then, casting their giant shadows. Some of them seemed...unapproachable...
I remember this guy walked up to me with a big smile on his face and introduced himself as Peter Haan.
I can tell from his posts here that he's still that same great guy, really the best of the best.

Hi Do, how was your trip just now? You mentioned you were going to the festival and do some climbing also.

Thanks to you guys; it is awesome to get this warm and friendly feedback.

Now, down to the first item on the agenda: The Secrets of Youth.

Well, Jim when Tallulah Bankhead was asked how she kept HER youth, she responded, “ I send him a check”. Which is awfully funny and perhaps has certain medical and emotional truths to it as well. (grin).

My big problem at this juncture ( age 61) is losing a bunch of weight; I think my brain is better than ever though. I have gotten to be a fat slob here in SF. If I can get the weight off and done at least partly, maybe I will be able to get some of the new routes climbed that I have planned. At this point it would be something out of “Wild Kingdom” with Marlin Perkins, watching the hippo try to get unstuck from his mudhole to protect his babies or something before the 8 lionnesses eat them all.

Thanks Pate-rfamilias, I will try to get another Pate image done today now that I am back in SF and since I have so many great shots of you recently from that post of yours.

I think I wore out Donini though; I have done a bunch of images of Jim already but Tarbuster is hard at work planning Jim’s Spring/Summer 2010 line of high-end handbags and musettes.

I first met Peter at RR's house just after his solo ascent of the Salathe Wall. Now that was one pumped guy!

His creative talents expand far beyond the disciplines of climbing, writing and photography. Hopefully, someday he will share with us some samples of his vast background in design and construction.

It has been great to reestablish a long lost friendship with Peter over the past two years. Much appreciated your assistance in salvaging old, damaged, underexposed and
dirty slides of climbing in long past.

Thanks Peter and thanks ST.

(((BUMP)))

Peter- thanks for your awesome contributions here and on the cliffs.
Your way of writing and conveying the time, the vibe, the humor, the climbing, the personalities... it is a gift, and something all of us respect and wish to emulate.

Here's to you, brother!!!

ps
Peter has told me not to fear aging-
that when I turn 60 I'll be able to see through structural steel...
just like him!!!

Peter Haan!

One day we are climbing in JT - a crack pitch. I jam it. I get down and Peter says "You really like jamming eh?" Then climbs the entire rt without ever putting a hand or finger near the crack.

Tech master!

BTW his skills at design - woodworking are phenomenal.

Peter is a great contributor to this forum. Great stories and art from a "living legend" climber.

Peter I also really appreciate your wonderful contributions to the Royal Robbins Mountain Paraphernalia thread.

I just met Peter a few months ago. He he did me a great favor and treated me like an old friend to boot, but his intelligence was very intimidating...

Thanks Peter, I think you (and your friends) are great.

It isn’t infrequent that we disparage over how cruel or gross our clearing in the forest can become, this “Supertopo Forum” place. But this thread is a good example, and I think only one among many, of the old “you get out what you put into it” priniciple. That one's life is in fact reflexive.

Share openheartedly, put your “wares” up for your colleagues to enjoy and you simply get friends coming back at you all smiles. Look at how cool all these remarkable ST’ers are here on this little thread! It makes everybody want to go further and see what’s over the next hill, doesn’t it.

In recent years I have finally and I mean finally come to realize that happiness IS cherishing others---that is what happiness IS---not just caused by. That emotion and state of mind is exactly the experience of valuing others, being a part and a parcel in their lives, our common life. I mean it is pretty basic.

Thanks tons everybody. More to come!! pt.
