I'd say Chris deserved his ride for having to put up with us.
Camped on the E Fork of the Kahiltna on an absolutely dead calm morning (post-climb) we heard a roar and looked up the glacier towards the Cassin Ridge to see two Phantoms coming towards us at about 500' pouring the coal to 'em. I'm glad they stayed
sub-sonic as that was plenty loud! Not a pebble was shaken loose although our ears rang for minutes.
ps
Besides the altitude rules there is also a speed limit of 250 kts below 10K. Hard to imagine going over Mach 1 below the Valley rim. It isn't exactly a straightaway so going a mile every 5 seconds might be a trifle skeery?

Most of these regulations are post-911. Getting a private certificate these days is NOT trivial! The written exam is a washout for many wannabee pilots.

Broke,
Actually, all those rules are quite old - at least 25 years.
9-11 didn't affect our desire to keep from scaring the ducks or enhance our 'wilderness' experience in the parks. The 250 kt rule is to try and avoid unintended pressure-welding of aluminum although it is 'loosely' observed by the military and I have seen its transgression almost brought to a fatal conclusion north of Tehachepi between an A-6 and a Cessna - naughty Navy jock!

Reilly-
You are correct for the airspeed and the age of most of these requirements. The era of 911 brought about many of the more restrictive "no-fly" regulations.
