IF you can afford the rent, Vail. 4hrs to Indian creek or Vedauwoo, so you have world class crack covered for 12 months a year.
All the skiing you can do, without starting your car. Best snow that side of Alta. Free skate track

I'd suggest living in Minturn, I have leads

There is alleged to be other climbing in the greenie state.

Can't believe only one other person has mentioned Jackson Hole. Seems to fit all of the criteria. But -- so does roaming around in a van. The wireless broadband cards these day are very capable. I have a Verizon card, but we also deploy AT&T to other employees. That kind of internet access can provide you a long leash.

...out of the country! This whole country is falling apart. Don't expect a new president to change anything. There is too much money at stake. They will say what we want to hear, but in four years we will still be wondering who can save this country.

Anyways I would have already moved, but I am currently trying to make my business survive in this horrible economy. If it fails I will also lose my home which I used as collateral to buy the business. This will then free me to go where I please.

Will the government bail me out like they have other institutions? Hell no! In Phil Gramms' quote, I am just another "whinning American". F#ck him and the guy he will work for if he wins- McCain!

good luck
dave

p.s Sorry for the political rant.

I'm doing o.k. No worse, no better. Thanks to idiots that took out foolish loans they can't afford I may be able to buy a house here pretty soon. Property values plummeted.

I've lived overseas in a few different countries and visited dozens. I ALWAYS was anxious to get back here...home.

Sorry to hear about your problems though. Seriously. I hope it gets better for you.

Thanks for the good wishes Bluering, and glad to hear that you are doing well.

I believe you are a new father, like myself and it is a very joyous time and also the scariest time as well.

Enough hijacking of pagans thread so I will go now.

Dr. Rock...Salton Sheeee har har. : )

Dave Goodwin, I was a lifer republican...In the last four years the party totally screwed Pharmacies across the U.S. with Medicare Part D ...and I won't go on and on and on....like I could about the other poor decisions the administration made to destroy many Mom and Pop businesses.

We too are just trying to survive the current economic times. We have 12 business's in our complex and all of us are holding on by our fingertips. God Bless you and hang in there...one day at a time, Bro. Lynnie

I would pick a couple of places. Out of the country for my primary home, as some one said, it ain't gettin no betta with a new prez. Tarifa, Spain has my #1 vote, except for the endless wind. :(

And after living in Mammoth for 12 years, I'd stay here too!
The LA crowd sucks, but their not my friends. My friends are cool, and that's who I hang out with, so it doesn't matter to me, they have already tried to ruin the place and it is backfiring on them big time. (Housing market collapse, damn Intrawest wankers!)
Prices are coming down and will probably continue to do so. Still a pricey place to live. I'll probably wind up in Bishop this winter. Oh shucky darn.

Living in the Inyo full time has it's problems. There is a 28 day limit for dispersed camping in the forest. If they spot you, and figure out you've been camping all summer, they can, and may, tell you to leave until next year. Happened to me. Because the guy didn't like my dog. (Who didn't like him and growled every time he came around, freaking me out.)I tried this at Sherwin Springs. Great spot, but too visible.

So if you go that route, keep a VERY low profile, don't set up a camp, and move a lot.

I left Boulder for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was the rapid influx of Californians (from LA probably) driving too fast and ignoring traffic lights. The snooty attitude of many Boulderites had a lot to do with it, and the avy danger.

Oh, wait, might have been because I COULDN'T AFFORD TO LIVE THERE!
When I moved To Mammoth, it was half the cost of living in Boulder. Not so anymore, but it's still pricey.

Montana and Canada? Too far north for me, the days are short enough around here in the winter.

But go ahead, move to Montana :)

Jennie and I have been thinking the same thing (if we don't kill each other first).

I've been in Ireland for close to 13 years and I do not mind it. Jennie, a native, hates the weather, but I get the feeling that she would be hesitant to move - after several years in Toronto, several years in Sweden and several years in England - not to mention the three years she spent in Nice when she ‘fled’ Ireland in the 1970s when she was young (she still is young in some ways).

We both get free medical care (including prescriptions), live in a lovely house (rented) at the end of a cul de sac in a lovely ‘village’ (Dalkey Quarry is less than five minutes walk away - very good granite and climbs) with views of Dublin Bay, and a great (but lazzzzyyyy) cat. I have a good job on a magazine that gives me two weeks off every month and the gym we belong to (Killiney Castle Fitness Centre) is a five-minute walk away.

But still...

She loves San Francisco, but the property prices in the Bay Area (being a native I love the Bay Area, but...) are a huge obstacle, unless we win the lottery (Irish Lotto would be nice, but the Euro Millions would be way nicer).

The property prices in Ireland, while coming down, are still high compared with elsewhere.

We are thinking the south of France, where we have both lived and worked. Or perhaps Tuscany (Italy). Or New Zealand - North Island for her, South Island for me. Or Chile (not an option for her... yet). Or the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia (more me than her)

Bend, Oregon is a possibility, but just. Slovenia? Hmmm... probably not (but beautiful and not expensive, just yet).

We have these options. But choosing the right one is a challenge.

Perhaps a nice sailing boat (50 footer or so) may do the trick. But one sort of wants a home base to operate out of.
Ouch!

Move to Fort Peck, Montana. There won't be anything between you and the North Pole taller than Dudley DooRight.
