Hi Lynne and thanks for the compliment.
I have not given it any thought yet but it sounds like your 3 man cot thread is rallying the troops.
Being in bishop , its just a hop skip and a jump so I will consider it for the good cause.

Gregg, thanks for replying. I have never been to the Facelift, this is my first time. I feel it is a great cause plus it gives climbers a chance to come together and interface/meet one another.
Ken...web name...chicken skinner sets up fun stuff every night for us to do...we work to clear trash and climb rock during day...sure hope you can join us...If you need help contacting Ken ( he's head of Yosemite Climbing Association) or really any help at all please email me.
Standing Strong, it's a misnomer...took 3 of us to put it together....hope to meet you at the facelift...

Call me crazy but i dont like to cary things around if i dont need them, (altho at 9,000 feet in early june i would have been much much happier with a sleeping bag, cloeths just didnt cut it that night

Context, KaK. Lynne isn't John Muir. Maybe she'll be a bit overequipped compared to us hearty hiker types, but there's no harm in that. If she was a 16 year old, maybe I'd suggest different/lesser equipment.
Perhaps we should provide for the possibility of croquet at the FaceLift, or perhaps softball. There's lots else already happening, but it might be fun one afternoon when we're "bagged out".

sleep better camping than home.
Tent: Get a simple Big Jive two pole umbrella tent.
These fancy stremline tents with the weird shaped gold anodized poles, the rocket scientist instructions and 200 dollar price tag?
Cuckoo!
I love to kick it and watch people struggle with those 22 pole extravaganzas in the dark, very entertaining.
"Let's see, insert pole marked V2 C into socket X 2 Q.
Remove pole W 2 K and plug into grommet V 6 Y.
Nuts! Who came up with that design anyway?
Some of them look like the Bird's Nest in China.
This 40 dollar tent has lasted 8 years already.
Has more room, and sets up in a jiffy.
Last summer I spent 67 nites in my tent, a new world record, for me at least.
Get an LED flash light, a small one. Tie it into the center loop at the top of your tent.
Leave it there.
Fold the tent up.
This way, no matter what, you will have a lit tent, even if you forget your other flashlight.
I soldered in a 4.7 k 1/4 watt resistor into the cap so that my light is only draggin about 1 ma.
Typical AA bat = 1000 ma hours, so if they don't corrode, it will last 1000 hours, or about ten years.
The glow is so dim, you can not even tell it is on from the outside, which is nice. You do not want to wreck you night vision in the middle of the night with a big light.
Once I get set up, I just leave the light on all night, so I don't have to dig out a light every time I need to visit the tent for something.
I used to like air matresses, but too many failures, and when they fail, you are screwed.
So I use a three panel single foam futon that I bought at Mancini's Sleep World for 39 bucks.
It folds up, or you can smash it into a cylinder.
Had it for ten years.
Everybody hates it if I carpool, but I sleep like a baby.
Use it at home, too.
Sittin on it right now, as a matter.
And, I just am finding out, it makes a great boulder pad!
They should make a boulder pad that doubles as a mattress.
We got this guy in the club, he likes camping so much, he sleeps in his bag on a Thermorest even at home!
Most freaks in the Kayak club use a Thermorest auto inflate, they are way cool, but kind of pricey.
Don't bring anything but the tent and pad.
There is going to be so much extra stuff, go the Ray Way.
Somebody always brings water.
Someone always brings way too much food.
You know what's funny?
One year I figured out that if you place your LED flashlight on top of a big clear water jug, it creates the most awesome camp light in the world.
Instead of a narrow beam, the water diffuses the beam into a warm blue glow.
It worked so good, that the next night at Camp Lotus, about three other camp sites were doing the same thing.
Next night, the whole camp ground was doing it.
So the next time you see a cool glow on top of a Safeway water jug...

Dr. Rock...as usual you ROCK OUT ! As well as everyone else that has helped this new born old child figure it OUT.
Realize now why DBL quit camping. Too darn much work. Wish I would have had a clue. I would have helped more. Shoot this darn princess that didn't know she was one.
SOOO, now we are on our own and doing it with the help of friends. And trust me, it will be done.
Hardest hit is the hair dryer. No way to plug in....Butane gone with the terrorists. Resigned to ugly hair....sigh ...get over it!!!!!!!!!
PS ...great idea about keeping the lite in the tent, stellar !
Dr. Rock, I was given the perfect two pole tent. I can currently assemble my cot and tent and well it's ALL good from there.
TM ....never lookin so GOOD ..Fattrad etc all so yo' for that glass of vintage vino... Big Smiles, Lynne

Lynne!
Stop with the cots! They are not as comfortable as a good pad... In fact some pads are just as comfortable as high end beds!
I would instead buy a thermarest pad or downpad. They are extremely comfortable, easy to pack and set up. Plus, they will allow you to do more than just car camp.
If you are wondering about them, go to a local climbing store/REI etc. and try them out! Please Lynne, you will not regret it!!!
Here are two site to read about them...

Anastasia, I'm a little embarassed. Lynne didn't listen to you and brought the cot to TM anyways. Please note: the cot is longer than the tent.
Whaddya do with someone like her ?
Don't worry, I'll have her act cleaned up by Facelift.

Just buy a bouldering pad. You'll sleep super comfortable and warm and can use it for climbing small rocks later. The setup is easy - just unfold it.
Seriously... A cot??? A tent is really questionable too.
