I dunno (for those who want grammar, that translates into “I do not know”), but common sense is the order of the day when posting, so it seems to me.
Also common sense dictates, IMO, is that if you open a thread - that has been clearly defined as OT (that’s ‘Off Topic’ for the grammar freaks) and you do not like the content and the posts on that thread, don’t open it again. That seems simple and sensible enough. An adult should have the sense to read what they like or ignore what offends them, as long as it doesn’t incite hate or violence.
IMO, some of the flaming that goes on in some threads, climbing related or otherwise, is far more offensive than some of the posts on Locker’s contentious thread.
For me, a bugbear is the use of ‘handles’ or avatars. I post under my real name, with an e-mail address that identifies who I am (I always have on this forum - patricksawyer@mountaineers.net, it’s there for everyone to see).
I suppose people may have their reasons for anonymity, but in some ways it seems a bit, shall we say, dishonest or sneaky. But that is just my opinion.
For example, and not singling out any one poster for a specific reason, like ‘L’ (WTF is Buddhacat7?), or Shack, or Hafilax (what is that, some sort of laxative brand?).
I still thing that this is the best climber’s forum on the internet, and again, I will thank Chris Mac for providing us with such a forum.
I think the majority of us, with the possiblity of a couple of exceptions (ie TIG’s what’s his name), have the maturity and common sense to sensibly “police” this forum ourselves.

How inappropriate is it to read something into someone else's post, that is not there,
