M3: I like the tribal/primal analogy.

Jody: "I am a conservative Christian police officer...do you see any conflicts with the "climbing community"? :)"

Those knukleheads (love them too) who excluded you from a climbing gathering: our loss.

Keep your hand in Jody. How many degrees of separation do we need here?
Lemme see:

My mother worked at the local police department during 10 years of my youth.
A good portion of my wife's family are either conservative, Christian, or both.
My first 4 years of primary education were achieved at a private Christian school.
Come to Boulder, we'll rope up, maybe go to my Chiropractor's church.

I haven't talked with Nat today but I think the first new route we do together will be 'Flaming Moth suicide,' maybe 'suicidal head moth' will be the second.

Jody, you should take Tar up on his offer, then head up to Vail and Climb / ski with reverend Mike (I'll hook you up). He's a major part of that geographic part of the climbing community. You guys would have a lot to talk about, not kidding around, I'll set it up!

I always thought climbers usually are the odd character in their society. That means that they are the hippie in the middle of a Republican family. Or a Conservative Christian around a community of sworn atheist, lettuce smokers etc.

Yesterday I was stopped by an officer for not wearing my seatbelt. He gave me a warning. You know he was so good at his job I left thinking only that he was right. Not wearing the belt really is a silly risk.

I would think officers have to deal with the idea warnings leave the stopees thinking they pulled one over on the officer. But if the officer treats the stop as something other than simple law enforcement, makes it a normal interaction, and clearly wishes the citizen well, that should be taken care of. Some person's desire to act like a complete fool should not ruin your day. Fact is it might also be possible to log warnings into the system? Suppose an officer says to you, "John, you have been warned five times to use your restraints. You may get yourself killed. What would you do if you were in my shoes?"

Can one really get upset over that kind of a stop?

I'm not saying I'm just like you Jody.
I am just being neighborly.

Have a great day out everybody!
