I'll be in Flag for a conference next week and wanted some location beta on the sandstone sport climbing I saw in the photos. Looked like a slot canyon that I would bet is somewhere closer to Sedona than Flag. If nobody is willing to give up the location, then I will have to settle for the Forks :).

Wheeee!
Summer SushiFest is officially over. Camp is broke and everyone has departed.
It was a blast and wonderful to meet so many new people.
Tom the Cop and MJ get the award for staying the longest (they rolled in last Tuesday and were the last ones to leave camp).
Thanks all for the Birthday wishes. I actaully got to go out and play yesterday instead of doing water runs, etc.
I guess I've decided the next sushifest will be in/around JTree. Folks lobbied for the East Side and did a good job of making me consider but in the end JTree makes the most sense (to start it's half the drive time for me). When is the question. We talked about the end of October so let's go with that.
Where?
Peace folks - I'll write more later.

again, great stuff!
Notice in that Head-on photo of Jack the Dog, it could be a seperated @ birth photo with Ron O?
Every time I climb in No-az (it's been at least three yrs now) or when I look at these photos, I am impressed how dry the seven k'altitude pine (jeff/pond?) forest is, compared to similar places elsewhere, oh man be careful!

I'll start poking around the J-Tree group campsite registration to see if there is anything available. Last time Russ looked a few months ago it was grim.
Perhaps on Friday I'll go scope out the BLM overflow camp spot to see if it's conducive to such an event.
Idea's welcome.

head straight to the BLM overflow camping. I'd prefer to not be in the park proper.

"Manny" es mi amigo Manuel Rangel, el Bombero? A truly amazing, low key, climbing dude. Not the place to get into his story here, but believe me, if you don't already know it, you would not believe his tale, at least the way I tell it! Hope you hoooked him up with a marley wrap, or something!

Nature--
even though I wasn't there, A big thanks for doing what you do! JT is definitely on for me. Here is a shot from my b-day party last weekend (7/13/07). Happy b-day to you.
Eric--great shots of the deep water. Saw a pair of Friction Loafers in the "Crew" pic. Pink and black--what's not to like.

J.W. Happy belated birthday to you and thanks for the birthday wishes.
I'm leaving it to Sooze and Mussy to find a spot. At this point I'm a bit burned out on the whole thing so if they don't locate one I guess we'll wait until next year for another one in (maybe) Utah and one in AZ.
I also now have to decide how much I want to charge for these events. I did some finances and it appears I spent more than was chipped in. Lot's of people expressed a lot of interest in attending. Too many people bailed at the last minute and I ended up paying for it. My question to the group is how much are you willing to pay per night for the whole thing? I can't do it for free any longer - the motivation is gone.
Full disclosure edit: I do have extra supplies to show from all of this. I also have about 15 lbs of sashimi grade fish ($250 worth) sitting in my fridge that will get frozen and grilled one day. It's really a shame about the fish.
Special Thanks Edit: The friction loafers were a pair of shoes that Ken Yager sent me (he sent two). They were too small for me but not too small for Tina so I passed them along to her. They have a C4 resole on them and I think they shrunk enough to fit her properly. Thanks again Ken.

Nature-- I'm trying to remember what you charged for this one ($150?). Whatever it was, I saw the tag and thought, This is too cheap for sushi, thai food, breakfasts, camping....
All the sushifest photos I've seen lead me to think that you go BIG for these events. No doubt the least the Taco crowd can do is compensate you fairly. These events are legendary and will live in peoples' memories for the rest of their lives. What would I be willing to pay for 2-4 days of catered party? $300-500. Work scholarships for those that are dirtbagging?
edit: maybe full payment at the get go if you want a spot held.

I agree you should charge more, Nature. I think it ended up being 20 bucks a day. I've gone out to sushi and paid that much for just APPETIZERS!
