"Edited: Just suggesting that your question of how sustained is a good question :-)."
thanks. we can discuss it in sept, but something easier but long would probly be more fun. don't really know if it sounds ilke fun to me to fall my way up 5 pitches... plus, is it unsafe to keep falling like that, esp. when high up? i don't mind being physically and mentally taxed, but i don't know if i wanna commit to something that long when i'm not solid on the grade. we'll see. we still have a couple months. and dinkum was climbed basically off the couch and my ankles were slipping out of my shoes. maybe if i get in a lot more climbing before, it won't be an issue.

Mighty, Thanks for your help. As somebody mentioned, there are other programs scheduled during the remainder of the Facelift. September 25 is the night before the event and I have reserved Yellow Pines for that evening. This means the whole campsite to ourselves(100 people). Nature, you up for this?

Thanks! It's gratifying to see all this interest in the Facelift, and it should make the event even more successful. Substantial participation by SuperTopians and the climbing community will let us do something for others, and send a message to the world (and the NPS) about the importance of this area to us. Hopefully we'll have some historic climbing figures, to aid with that. (Or free climb, or boulder, or pink point...)
The Facelift is intended to help Yosemite, the climbing community, and the public. There's a lot going on over the five days - large numbers of volunteers, supplies and materials, evening socials (food, speakers, prizes), sponsors, and so on. We need to help Ken and the Yosemite Climbing Association, and not add to his enormous pile of things to do. There are many things SuperTopians perhaps COULD do over the five days, but keeping it simple seems desirable.
The most important things SuperTopians can do to help with the Facelift are:
Attend and help, in as environmentally-friendly a manner as feasible, and for as long as possible.
Hang out with fellow SuperTopians on the 25th/26th, in a fairly organized manner. Hopefully at other times, too.
Join the YCA, and make a donation!
Have fun!!
I'm some distance from Yosemite, and so can only help plan. Some solid local help is needed. The key things:
We only (for sure) have large group camping on the 25th/26th, at Yellow Pines. I suspect it's needed on other Facelift days for youth groups who're helping. From then on, we may be camping in groups, but not as a single large group.
Free admission to the Park, and free camping, for those helping with the Facelift. (Need to sign up IN ADVANCE!)
The big SuperTopo social event has to be the evening of the 25th. Sushi, BBQ, or some other fine dining are all ok with me. A BBQ is more flexible, given that numbers may not be very certain - simply provide BBQs, lanterns, and some condiments, and the rest is simple. Sushi requires more organizing, and isn't very flexible in terms of numbers.
All going well, we'll draw many uninvited but welcome climber guests to the event on the 25th. Perhaps some well known climbers from Yosemite's past, some of the current denizens of Camp 4, maybe the NPS climbers - John Dill, Werner, and so on.
Free camping on other days is likely, for those helping. However, it may not be for large groups, and may be spread out.
One person has generously offered to do pancake breakfasts each morning, which would be another chance to get together, though we'd have to figure out a central location, and work out logistics and finances. Also whether to have it on just one morning (Sunday - 30th?), or several.
Somehow I suspect that amplified music, explosions, bongo drums, and other conspicuous behaviour may not be a good idea. We need to at least pretend to be responsible climber-citizens during the Facelift.
We need to decide what form the event on the evening of the 25th will take, and what other group social things we want to do. Thoughts?
Should I be keeping some sort of list of people who say they'll be there, or would that be overly organized?

Ken: Yup, I'm in. I owe you one and owe Yosemite a lifetime of "one's".
I'm not going to contemplate details for another couple of weeks so for now marking my iCal will suffice.
What I'll probably do is simply state I'm doing sushi and not try and promo it. If you want in on the sliced fish you'll have to send me $20 a few weeks in advance. Or maybe give folks an option of putting in $10 with an honest agreement that they will also eat the other grubables.
I'm an idiot edit styleee: I can't even read a dam calendar. Labor day is the beginning of September and not the end. I guess that restriction is not a problem. Hmm....

First this post needs a bump as it is a great event. I missed last year as I was on the DL due to a windsurfing accident.. However I am seriously considering being there for this year.
I am looking at flying up to Fresno as right now it is really cheap from San Diego via Express Jet. The cost is way below what it would cost in gas to drive. Anyone on the forum in that area planning on going as I would be happy to share expenses to go from there to the Valley?

Slakkey:
I was a noobe last year but from what i saw you missed a really great event. I got to work with youngsters but just as importantly with some "just people", like myself, who as chance would have it live in Fresno.
Ken is the kinda guy who goes after "the absolute max". If he could hook you up with Gerry from Fresno for a ride, that would be the absolute max. I kick myself for not getting their address.

For the last 30 years all I have ever done is get to the valley in the dark, crash under the same giant boulder, wake up, eat breakfast at the Lodge, get on a route, do the route, come down and shower while drinking a beer and get on the road out.
This would be a great chance to get to see part of the valley up close and personal while doing something very worthwhile.
Count me in. The new view will do me good.
