Dan76 of Aberdeen, Scotland started this thread with...

""Hey,
How good's the gear shop in the valley? ""

The gear and shop are fine. Some might say the staff and/or customers might have issues. The gear, however, couldn't care less.

When you coming over?

geez mel .. you must be on the rag today or sumthing..

.. all you had to say was .. "that rumor is a lie .. dont believe everythign you hear" ..

.. i thought i'd posted all the dumb stupid things i've done in the valley .. maybe you've heard some lies about me .. (but why make something up -- the true stories about my clusterf*#ks, bumbling gumbie outings, accidents, and stolen gear, are good enough on their own.)..

I think the Mountain Shop needs to make an appearance as the settting for a "ValleyCommuter" episode. It's cleary got a hold on the psyche of the average commuter if the subject can stir up this kind of thread.

Nice, Ricardol. Hinting that someone has "lost it", racist tones, and lying about a guy who 90% of folks on this forum probably know on sight. And who has no way of even knowing about it.

And invalidating what Mel said with a sexist remark. You are batting 1000.

You can post in better style than that.

And consider this. Maybe Bernie knows the "truth" about you as you listed in your post and simply chooses not to kiss your ass because he does not respect you.

Its a possiblility. Just because someone is an ass to you doesn't mean they are an ass to everyone. (I've learned this one the hard way, believe me)

Holy Crap, people.

The Mountain Shop is probably the only merchant in the Valley that charges normal prices for its merchandise. I was quit shocked the first time I went in there and discovered that there wasn't a 30% - 100% markup just because they had the maket cornered. Add to that the fact that they have all kinds of stuff *in stock* that you'd normally have to wait weeks if you ordered it online, and I'm sold.

I could care less if they do a good job of fostering a strong climbing community or whatever. That's Link's job, right?

They've always been professional and courteous to me, but honestly, I'd rather have them be a bit icy and charge normal prices than be friendly while reaming me for that one piece of gear I really need and would otherwise have to leave the valley for.

Pete, I'm sure you've gotten used to the fact by now that people have other reasons to dislike you, whether they're true or not (I have no idea.) You're hardly a good example.

i know, i know, and what about the guys complexion?
i swear, you'd think government employees would take better care of their skin!

and is it too much to ask that a park employee brush his teeth regularly? how about a little quality time w/ some deodorant? sheesh...

ok, seriously, i am w/ ricardo on this one-
i want to see the &*%$#@! slander posted!
remember when this forum was a quality smack talking entertainment experience, and actually worth surfing???

i want to read about the mexican drug-lord climbers asking bernie to "say hello to (their) little friend"

i want to hear about ricardo and bernie throwin blows on the pizza deck (or was that ricardo and melissa? i would pay to see that! maybe we can get a ST forum party after al!?!?! and yes, he did SO say that about your mother, he musta edit'd it out!)

i want to read about litter bugs and the chiselers and the cheaters

i even want to read about piton pete's purported pedophelia (though the rest of the pedro wall guru garbage is a total yawn-fest)

when did the once spicey internet spray on ST turn into a bunch of questions about the full moon shining on half dome? ((the moon goes east to west, just like the sun, cause the globe, see, it spins, once every 24 hours or so...)

i haven't had a good laugh since that creationist website made the rounds, thank god for poop*g and the ambiguously run-out dou!

(duo? doo-O? duex-O? whatever)

Matt -

The best read of all may be the accident report on Ricardol if he has the balls to finish this conversation with Melissa in person as she so gently requested...

I will be watching via binos and wearing a splatter guard.

yup -- bug in the forum code ..

where did melissa's post go?

.. sheesh .. ST should remove the "Edit" and the "Delete this post" button .. or at least mark where something was removed .. some of my responses are a bit out of context since there have been deleted posts through the thread. *sigh* ..

5 bucks on melissa!

i propose mechanized poop-tube potato(e) launchers at 50 paces-
followed by hand to hand combat w/ big bros (if there are survivors after the tater-tots run out)-

and if there is no significant bloodshed after 30 minutes, it's the chinese downhill, but up royal arches, w/ each picking a posse of 10-12 of their closest friends to join in the fun, winner take all, looser rides petes fly back to the base...

edit-
we could do a pay-per-view web-cast as an AF fudraiser, then sell the idea to the gravity games (i got yer gravity right here pal...)

Off topic, but i just read the.... "wasn't there a thread not to long ago about some guy who peoeple were posting horror stories about (the guy was in jail now or something ..)"

and Mel's "If that guy were my friend and the story was a hurtful lie, I'd have chimed in."

well, the stuff written was hurtful truths/ not slander... but wild nontheless... and the guy in question ..who has not been seen or heard from in years ..makes a brief guest appearance from Romania, posts a "hi all!" onto the thread, denies nuthing (kudos for brazenness...) ..then couple days later deletes his posts leaving behind no trace... .

now, back to Bernie........

I guess I'll chime in here. I was also shocked that the mtn shop charges standard retail prices. Good selection too.

As far as Ricardo vs. Melissa. Hmmm. I know both of 'em a little, and like 'em both, so I won't be cheering anyone on. I might want to watch though...

melissa:

.. i only said the comment about you being on the rag because i thought you were getting bent out of shape for no reason. you sure came out swinging when all that had been asked was wether the rumor was true or not.

.. i will definately keep on shopping at the mtn shop .. i already steer clear of bernie when i am there .. (because i dont think he provides good customer service) .. so i dont see a reason why i would change that .. (like i said before -- there are plenty of other people that work there that DO provide good customer service) .. -- in fact i have several items i need from the store, because nobody else carries them in the bay area .. (ballnuts, metolious waste case, etc) ..

.. i dont care to ask bernie wether the story is true or not .. IF the story is true, would you want some snot nosed kid asking you about it .. (specially since it supposedly happened MANY years ago) .. -- i merely wanted to hear some from the folks who were in the scene at the time the alledged story took place ..

.. go ahead and blow an internet forum spat out of proportion and bring it into the real world if you'd like .. you can ask me if i think you're on the rag next time you see me in the valley .. i'll let you know what i think then.

    ricardo

PS. i've read over the posts i made .. to see what "my big words" were .. i said he gives bad service .. (not that big) .. i said he was as dick .. (not that big either) .. i asked wether a story i heard (rumor) that he was attacked by climbers when he moved into the valley was true or not .. (not that big either) .. am i missing something?

Like, because the validity of that story has any impact on your life whatsoever? The thing that you are not grasping is that it's none of your business whether it's true or not. The personal lives of people that you don't even know and who don't participate in this forum are not for your entertainment here.

I'm sure that in his shoes I wouldn't want you asking me about it, but also would prefer that you not ask the entire supertopo forum about it either.

Which disrespect do you think was greater...Him giving you poor customer service or your post? Or even his one...Him giving you poor customer service or you making a sexist remark to me?

I just saw your PS...If calling him a dick doesn't count as 'big words' make sure you do it to his face next time you're in the mountain shop.

"".. i only said the comment about you being on the rag because i thought you were getting bent out of shape for no reason.""

Well, that explains that, huh? What's your reason for getting bent out of shape? Got something to tell us?

""you can ask me if i think you're on the rag next time you see me in the valley .. i'll let you know what i think then.""

That's class.

speaking from experience. if you have ever worked retail sales, then you understand why some of the help has an "attitude". day after day of idiot tourists' questions gets old real fast.
now how 'bout that Mountain Shop pad thai?
