Tradman's list is somewhat skewed to exalt the "sex, drugs, rock and roll" versions of manhood; thus, I don't "score" well on his dickometer.
The lovely thing about any list or typology is the power which resides in whomever proposes the criteria.
I know there are plenty of characters (current and ex-ST posters) who could write their own self-serving "have-you-ever" lists that make my own offering (which follows below) pale by comparison.
To name a few, I'd love to see the "have-you-ever lists" for Sierra Ledge Rat, Don Paul, Delhi Dog, Largo, Donini, Rocker Mike, ecdh, Moose (if he'll be serious for once) and Steve Arsenault.
However, for a list skewed in my favor, I ask, have you ever:
1. Defended and won acquittal for a man charged with capital murder?
2. Written a book (that got published) based on your own life experience?
3. Parented and successfully raised a child who is emotionally, financially and socially well adapted and actually happy?
4. Crossed the Ganges River (where it is over one mile wide) on a bamboo raft carrying the family Jeep?
5. Obtained the equivalent of a Ph.D level of knowledge in any field of knowledge?
6. Learned a foreign language to the level of conversational fluency?
7. Traveled in over 30 foreign countries?
8. Studied all the world religions to a level of reasonable academic and/or conversational fluency?
9. Successfully defended your woman from a rape attempt by an armed assailant? And you don't have any weapon? And he took two shots at you (and missed)?
10. Climbed a mountain over 18,000 feet high?
11. Reached an "expert," "quasi-professional," and or "fully professional" level in at least three distinct outdoor sports?
12. Fall in love at first sight and then formed a committed "marital" relationship with the object of same?
13. Made a first ascent?
14. Hitchiked and/or picked up hitchhikers in four different continents?
15. Hitchiked over 5,000 miles in your life?
16. Bivied the night outside without adequate clothing, sleeping bag and/or tent more than once? More than five times?
17. Spent your second night in a foreign country outside, on a sandpile, hiding from security guards, wearing only a bathing suit and too cold to sleep?
18. Gone on numerous "walkabouts" in foreign countries for months on end with no real plan or schedule?
19. Driven the same motor vehicle for 20 (or 30) years?
20. Driven the "Karakoram Highway" from Islamabad to Skardu and then Askole (or some other comparable horror show at least 200 kilometers long, if such a thing exists)?
21. Done all the above and never suffered a broken bone?
22. Served without compensation on the board of directors (or as President) of a charitable, philanthropic or non-profit entity?
23. After age 10, been happier every successive decade of your life? (Happiness ages 0-10 is impossible to compare or rate IMHO.)
24. After age 15, gone 10 years (or more) without consuming any alcohol. tobacco or recreational drugs?

1. Defended and won acquittal for a man charged with capital murder? no edit; i have provided resources and evidence for persons facing potential death penalty tho.
2. Written a book (that got published) based on your own life experience? no
3. Parented and successfully raised a child who is emotionally, financially and socially well adapted and actually happy? so far yes
4. Crossed the Ganges River (where it is over one mile wide) on a bamboo raft carrying the family Jeep? all but the jeep
5. Obtained the equivalent of a Ph.D level of knowledge in any field of knowledge? not yet
6. Learned a foreign language to the level of conversational fluency? yes
7. Traveled in over 30 foreign countries? 28
8. Studied all the world religions to a level of reasonable academic and/or conversational fluency? started to then gave up in disgust
9. Successfully defended your woman from a rape attempt by an armed assailant? And you don't have any weapon? And he took two shots at you (and missed)? does saving a few kids from human traffickers substitute?
10. Climbed a mountain over 18,000 feet high? multiple
11. Reached an "expert," "quasi-professional," and or "fully professional" level in at least three distinct outdoor sports? expert maybe, paid for it yes
12. Fall in love at first sight and then formed a committed "marital" relationship with the object of same? first part no, second part yes
13. Made a first ascent? multiple
14. Hitchiked and/or picked up hitchhikers in four different continents? yes. 5 if we include the subcontinent
15. Hitchiked over 5,000 miles in your life? easily
16. Bivied the night outside without adequate clothing, sleeping bag and/or tent more than once? More than five times? lots more than 5 times
17. Spent your second night in a foreign country outside, on a sandpile, hiding from security guards, wearing only a bathing suit and too cold to sleep? had more than a bathing suit but less than a visa
18. Gone on numerous "walkabouts" in foreign countries for months on end with no real plan or schedule? my obituary will probably contain those exact words
19. Driven the same motor vehicle for 20 (or 30) years? no
20. Driven the "Karakoram Highway" from Islamabad to Skardu and then Askole (or some other comparable horror show at least 200 kilometers long, if such a thing exists)? done the kkh in full 7 times so far and several that make it tame by comparison.
21. Done all the above and never suffered a broken bone? yes
22. Served without compensation on the board of directors (or as President) of a charitable, philanthropic or non-profit entity? no
23. After age 10, been happier every successive decade of your life? (Happiness ages 0-10 is impossible to compare or rate IMHO.) excellent question, need to think on that
24. After age 15, gone 10 years (or more) without consuming any alcohol. tobacco or recreational drugs? almost, yes, no comment

Defended and won acquittal for a man charged with capital murder?
This one begs the question, did he do it or did he not? Good for you if he was innocent.
Done all the above and never suffered a broken bone?
So you claim to be hard core but you've never broken a bone? LOL.

Terry. This whole thing was inspired by a list on FB that I thought was lame. Your list is amazeing. My list is obviously slanted by growing up a preachers kid. I do not get too many on your list. I have been sober over 12 years. What is your book about?
