Montards, how far is most of this stuff you're posting from Missoula? Time wise, not necesarily distance wise.

So someone else took all the pics of me actually climbing (that is to say, leading), and he's decided to go off into the internet-less Adirondacks, but I had a really good time with my friend Jenny, with whom I had my very first ice climbing experience, last Tuesday. Yay!!!! btw, have I mentioned? Leashless SUCKS!!! Even on TR!!! I hate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah Big!
Delmoe Lake road is where the love is...among other random roads around the area...
My previous post from today is from the Delmoe, the one previous is some stuff off of Highway 2.
Lifetime(s) worth for sure, and way too many classy cracks not to have the area sussed out....
You have any pics from when you were round MT Big?
Cheers,
Tom

There might be a few floating around from my time in Butte. I could barely afford beer back then, so film was not in the budget. Spent most days that winter exploring what I presumed were untouched gems in the area with shoes, a scrap of carpet, and the tele's for transportation. Deep snow that winter made for nice solo landings below friable flakes as well as reasonable travel. Skinned and explored out toward Delmoe, up and down the old train tracks from the interstate access points, as well as Spire Rock and the hills above it. Seemed like beautiful lines were around every corner. Only regret was never getting deep into the maze of rock on the north side of 90 around the Dragon's Back. I'll dig for some pics this week. In the mean time, keep the pics coming. Brings back some wonderful memories

Nice Big, you are describing our area of focus(including the Dragon's Back stuff). I agree, good stuff around every corner.
It is hard to tell sometimes what has been done or not. After talking some with Bill Dockins, who grew up climbing and exploring in Butte, it sounds like many of the classy cracks off the Delmoe road have been done, but rarely. It a shame too, with so many quality lines it's hard to know where to start, or continue, or to find the 'true classics'.
Mojede and I, however, are now trying to keep track of what has been going on, and where the 'goods' are. Currently we have about 7-10 nice 'zones' of classic cracks and problem potential, but that seems to be just scratching at the surface.
I'll keep posting up pics, hope to see some of yours too.
Cheers to the Batholith,
Tom

I had a notebook full of topos at one point. Maybe it will surface with the pics. Probably did close to 50 problems at spire rock alone. Some not worth mentioning, but a precious few would be classics at any area. It's nice to see a motivated crew out searching the hills for nice lines. Watch out for moose. Had a very close call that winter when I startled one in a dense stand of junipers. I think I could have reached out and touched it as it exploded out of the trees and ran right past me. Could have if my anus hadn't pucked up so tight that it sucked the air right out of the old lungs

Big, you're getting me so psyched up! That type of info is invaluable. If those topos turn up I'd love to check them out, as well as the 50 probs @ spire!(Nice!) I've only done a handful of problems around the Queen, but there is so much in and around there.
It's hard to know what's been done as far as bouldering in the batholith, and even harder to know who did what, especially with the lack of written beta. This type of info would be a great source for the community, and deserves recognition IMHO.
a couple more from sunday

The Ventors did o.k. but alot of the rock was 'moist'. I did cruise in them all day though. I'll have to dry them on dry rock this weekend. They seem comfortable, but smearing might be tough with the thicker soles. We'll see.....

I'm bolting (again) within the hour. It'll be cold where I'm going, but not as cold as it's been here. Hasn't been above freezing in a week or so. Horrible.
Climbing won't be horrible though.

heh, I was gonna call you, but I knew you were tied up. So I didn't want to call just to rub it in!
We found a couple of other things on sunday we didn't see on sat, but we scoped most of it. That slab on the backside of the first photo proved to be a bit harder than I thought....
