Pete's posts are not lost or gone, nor anything else permanent. I'm sure most of you haven't read the thread in question over on RC.com, but a few of you have and have neglected to mention my reply to the situation. So...

Today is the first day of a major transition in the history of this website. A lot of stuff happened successfully, and clearly there are some issues that will need to be addressed. The links are broken universally across the board and the code guys are going to have to decide how best to resolve the problem.

Please be patient while we work to find a solution.

Thanks,

Ed

A lot of stuff is broken right, and Pete's volumes of information will be accessible in the future. Incidentally, I'd like to give some measure of credit to Pete for actually having listened to some honest and well-intention feedback from people over the last couple of years. I think he has taken some of it to heart, and maybe I'm a sucker for believing it, but Pete strikes me as a guy who does strive to become a better person. I'm certain he's far from perfect, but I also don't think he's the same person he was 2, 3, 5 years ago. Heck, I hope none of us are. It's my perception that Pete is a little more humble and less womanizing, and for what little it's worth, I appreciate that.

Less womanizing? Not hardly. Pete's one of the biggest sexists on this forum. It would be so fun to be in the Valley when he's there so I could address this issue with him in person pugilistically.

If that's really what you want, Mimi, then you certainly know how, when and where to find him, twice a year, every year, by the countless times he's stated it, especially in these situations.

I'd personally encourage it. I'd bring popcorn, a lawn chair, icy cold beverages... This could be a hoot! I'll save my bets for the event though. =)

By a lot of accounts, that is Pete's biggest character defect and the source of most of his problems. I'm not claiming to know Pete well, and I surely have no business taking his inventory, but I know the tone of his posts have changed, as have his comments toward women in the posts I've seen the past couple of years. I could dig up some real doozies from prior to that from RC.com, but there's no point rehashing what you already seem to know. All I'm saying is I haven't heard anyone threatening to kick Pete's ass because of his interactions with females in a couple of years. Could be he has learned from some mistakes and taken some feedback to heart. I'm not saying trust him with your daughters, but maybe he's not the same guy you may have met in years past.

Maybe.

This is the Internet, Ed. People come here to act tough, talk sh#t and be the bad-ass they aren't. I doubt those of us who are making threats, talking trash, etc., will stop, regardless of anything else. Just the way it is. The Internet fosters this kind of behavior and probably has gotten as popular as it has, in part, due to all of these Barney-Bad-Asses being able to be as big as they want, behind the screen. It's a lot about being who you dream of being but can't, to a lot of people. Look at all of the fake pictures posted in people's profiles all over the place! No different here... Part of the draw of so many folks to the Internet is it's anonymity, I think.

Nef, save the trouble with the entertainment setup, it wouldn't take that long.

And I don't trash talk on this forum for fun behind some anonymous ID. I'll do my best to time my next Valley trip. Pete already apologized for some pooh he slung my way and said he owed me a beer. I'd like to take him up on that.

Mimi - Lol. I don't think Pete's much of a fighter, so maybe not. But, hey, can't I get caught up in the moment? Besides, I really like popcorn!

Despite all our differences on here, it would certainly be an interesting cragging/campfire gathering. I also really like popcorn.

Kinda part of my point too, Mimi. I think most of us, even those of us who've had differences would get along fine, and have a great time, in person. After all, we're all here with a common underlying therad. The Tacostand just brings out the sh#t-talker in all of us!

Let me know when you come down, I'll buy you a beer too! I always like to meet new people. =)

Bring it on...

I would pay money to see the FIRST EVER case where someone actually
discussed something with Pete face to face instead of posting it online.

Serious money.

Its super-cool to bash Pete, always has been.

But I taught myself how to climb walls (as well as I know, anyway) by reading Pete's stuff. It was his enthusiasm online for walls that inspired me to give walls a go and it changed my life. Of course, not all of his whacky stuff is a good idea for a beginner, and there's a big chunk thats not good for anybody but Pete. ;)

Re: Trash - I've been to the base of two routes while Pete's been on them (NA wall and Dihedral) and there was not a spot of trash to be seen.

Pete has always been nothing but a gentleman to me in face to face meetings, has provided beta when requested (thanx pete) and also provided very solid advice on a couple of occasions when I asked for it.

From the looks of recent posts, some of Pete's sexist ways seem to have changed. As to the other accusations, I have no idea. I definatley consider Pete a friend and a fine mentor. As uncool as that may be.

On every visit to this forum I am reminded why I visit infrequently. The judgemental, self-righteous, snobbish, holier than thou atttiudes of posters is always waving like a flag around here. The criticisms of RCcommies, slams on the PitonPete, and the general, I'm better than they are rants are only indicative of wanabees lacking maturity.
THIS SITE is overrun with poor, sick little minds.
I fully expect the "oh look your just like the guys your talking about". There is a difference. I do it to illustrate that nowhere is there a perfect site, person, climber, not me, and sure as hell not the persons mentioned above.
Bottom line: keep working at it you'll grow up someday, if your lucky.
P.S. As other posters point out, there are many really good people out there if your willing to put the judgements aside.
And Ya, no matter what you thought of Pete, he had some good info to offer. Take what you can use and leave the rest.

OK everyone, BIG HUGGG! (even you mean guys)
