I'm liking the Flax Flakes lately. I can choke them down while doing last minute preparatory things and they sit still when things start to happen.

Yesterday, my wife gave me 1.5 apples just before I ran a 5k. That was no good. My guts were in an uproar at a bad time.

Two words: peanut butter.

Stir in one tablespoon and the sum is greater than its parts.

Werner- I remember when Dale ate only honey that season. Where did he get that idea?

Still climbed like a fiend, though.

I eat oatmeal often....I just don't think you get enough bang for the buck for an alpine climb.

Dale Bard ate pure raw honey mixed with tigers milk protein mix for breakfast one season, ugh gag.

The dude would be so amped his neck became red from the sugar causing his capillaries doing some weird sh!t.

We'd drive to the location to start our approach one particular time and the dude takes off with everything like a juiced up superman he was so amped up.

Except he was going in the opposite direction of the approach.

Amped up mannnn .....

that actually sounds like a niacin rush, not a sugar rush - standard capillary response. Especially since the sweeteners were honey and molasses (used to be in Tiger's Milk as sweetener BITD).

Mom used to make me drink brewer's yeast with orange juice every morning - the niacin rush was the best part...

Amped up, Mannnn ....

;)

BITD I fed a LOT of climbers with french toast at Hidden Valley Campground year round. It worked then and works now. We called it freedom toast there for a while, but it was still good. Bought Aunt Jemiama syrup by the gallon. Lol.

You have a point. What did Kukuczka have for breakfast?

IMHO

yes

I've tried a lot of different things over the years... nothing works when you're crammed in a tent, getting ready at 2am to go... oatmeal at least is a known quantity with a known reaction and a known quotient of energy.

Oatmeal? Sure. With nuts and fruit added and a load of coffee. Add more fuel as you move along. Pockets full.

Pop tarts. Quick, easy, tasty. Washed down by a quart or so of strong black coffee.

We called it freedom toast there for a while

We call it road toast-make a whole loaf the night before, bring it on the road. Lasts a couple days in foil in a backpack, light, tons of calories and protein, good cold or lukewarm, can't go wrong.

don't matter what you eat for breakfast, it's what you ate the night before,

hopefully a huge plate of sphagehetti with meat ball ball balls,

then for break fast 16 pieces of french toast smothered with strawberry preserves and topped with a lb of powdered sugar,

wash it all down with a huge chocolate malt with two eggs cracked into it,

followed by a double order of...

BACON!

why eat such a tasty breakfast?

BECAUSE YOUR GONNA DIE!

you really want warm sawdust to be your last meal?
actually i just had a big dish of oatmeal for dinner, no sugar or milk,
that's why my BP is 95 when i sit down to pump up the balloon,

Once bought a 10 pound bag of oatmeal at Smart & Final.
Somebody said it was horse feed.
I had been running from Tom's Place to RCL and back down in those years so I didn't care.

toast a few sliced almonds in an iron skillet, pour them out to be added later. dump rolled oats into the pan and keep 'em stirring. critical timing: oats will go brown to black in an instant so be ready to drizzle boiling water into the pan to arrest the browning and make the oats dance in steam. turn off heat and flood the pan with just the amount of water the oats will absorb. best if dried fruit like craisins or 'cots were softening in the water, add almonds and a pinch of brown sugar. eat it thick from a thermo mug washing it down with black coffee whiskeyed up. then back to bed
