I emailed Hank to ask what happened and am posting his replies below, with his permission.
The biggest problem seems to be total content deletion when RJ "deactivates" someone. Hank did not request deletion of what he had posted over the years, and didn't even consider it.
I'm really good friends with Chris, I just don't post on ST anymore so I had him deactivate me. I didn't know my posts went away, but in the end I don't really care. ST is not worth my time anymore, I'm way busy and it's just not worth it. It's actually no big loss for anybody.

Hankster was not banned. He asked for all his posts to be deleted.
sounds like a miscommunication as he said he didn't know all of his posts would be deleted. He just wanted his account closed.
something that I don't really understand;; asking to have ones account closed. Why not just stop posting. I do realize that once you get in the habit of checking the taco daily, it can be hard to break.. but well. hmmm.

A hint for those who want to close their accounts to keep themselves from posting and wasting time on the taco:
Just change your account password to a long string of random numbers and symbols. Something impossible to remember. Then throw away the paper you wrote it on. Easy peasy.
you have to write it down because you have to repeat it for it to be accepted at the beginning. But once accepted you just throw the paper away and its gone. Then log out and you won't get back in.
