The flip side could interesting also. How many of You are Dead Because of ST: Posthumous Stories Here. Routes you never would have stumbled upon except you read about them on the taco and then attempted.

Never, ever would have known who my birth dad was, or met any of my birth mom's friends in the climbing community...never would have started climbing...or met so many incredible souls.

Figuring out that you've figured out who your birth dad was out of the billions of people on the Internet some 40 years after you were born and in the same breath that he took his own life...that was, well, something I was completely unprepared for, but the wonderful lot of you inspired me to look forward and ride the wave, kept me from hiding under a rock and have given me more joyful moments than I could ever have imagined experiencing in one lifetime.

I am paying your kindnesses forward one by one. But I'm not sure I'll ever be able to pay forward the greatest gift...self-acceptance, upon seeing myself through the combination of my birth parents (warts and moles and all -lol) and each of them in turn reflected in their remarkable friends, and even more stellar greater climbing family.

What a wondrous place this is...

The Laramie guys on this site were key in helping me get back together with old friend, graduate school co-conspirator, ex-roommate and long-lost climbing partner Joe ("local guy") Cupps. I hadn't seen Joe in 25 years and it was great to find out he's still going strong.

Get the clip, Joe:

I've yet to hook up with a climbing partner via the internet forums. Could be that I live Far Far Away. But if you're ever in Buenos Aires, the closest real rock is right out my front door. The bouldering is killer, there's top notch sport and even a few gear routes to boot, all on some really cool rock.

Hell yes I'm better off because of Supertopo!!

I have reconnected with numerous old friends because of this place, Nita, Timid, Tarbuster, Lepton, Doug McDonald, Rob Lesher, Bellizzi, Gagner, and more!!

I've made awesome new friends, Jefe, eKat (even though I'm positive I met her back in the day) Guido, CoZmic, Philo, This Just In, Crimpie, basically a list that could go on all day.

I've gotten a locals view of Cochise and Red Rock, places to crash, great shoes and more from making friends here.

Viva Supertopo!!

Supertopians are worth crossing half a world for.
I did just that and the Supertopian I met was very good to me.

Yes... to everyone I've met virtually or otherwise in the years since rec.climbing... so many. I've learned so much about climbing, and shared, too. I feel like if ever i wanted to go anywhere to climb, I could probably find a local to grab a beer with. Gotta love the internet that way.

And then this -

hey nature... thanks for all the fish :)

That's awesome to see ^^^^^^^

I've met some great people and reconnected and kept in touch with some old friends through supertopo.
I've been inspired, challenged, touched, and humored.

Sometimes it's nothing more than a bunch of bullshˇt

I will be honest, I have been having some mixed feelings about this place lately, however, I believe in ( at least attempting to be) grateful.
Not many of you know me, and when I first started posting here I was a young little punk. I still am. But A little over two years ago I nearly died in a car accident, and had my entire body pretty wrecked, head to toe. I had an excessively long recovery due to some of my injuries, and went through a very dark and introspective period. I realized that climbing was one of the few things I was actually proud of, for whatever reason, ( even with how little I had actually done with it, and how pointless it is ) and decided that no matter what, I HAD to get back on the rock again, and get back to it. I put more blood, sweat and tears into my recovery than I think most people realize. I was not able to climb real rock for about a year worth of time, and somehow, I was able to ( relatively speaking ) stay motivated the entire time, and even stoked to get back to climbing on real rock in whatever way/shape/form I could manage.
I really do not think I would have been able to keep the fire burning for that long without SuperTopo. The trip reports, the pictures, the stories, I ate that stuff up on the regular as if it was part of my diet. Plus, the people here, as weird/intense/off the wall as they can be, I actually felt like I kinda fit in, in some weird way. Which for a bit of a loner like me, is a surprise.

I am going to stop my stream of conscious narration now, and probably go back to lurking in general, but I thought this thread was appropriate to share this. Cheers All.

I met my wife Cleo at a pity party (remember those?). She says we met a year before, but I don't remember that so it doesn't count.

Yeah, this site rocks and I think I'm better off for all the folks I've met through it. Need to get back to the US and hit up another SushiFest. I only made it to the one at Joshua Tree and it was a hoot.

I was always just an occasional observer. Made for some interesting conversations with Jack, who frequented often. When Jack died, the support, stories, pictures, and love he (and me!) received from ST is without measure. I've copied and saved all those comments, and will be forever grateful to ST for the outpouring of love. Now there are still some of you who give me a shout out in my dark moments when I choose to share....I can always count on a bit of a boost, a laugh, a shoulder. I know this forum has been a great comfort for many in times of sorrow and despair as it has been for me, as well as a fabulous way to connect and re-connect...........no small thing for a bunch of climbers just chatting on-line!!! Cheers,

There are a bunch of fookin crazies on here and I'm sure I'm one of them to somebody :) I keep coming back though. Love all the old skool climbers and great knowledge and history this site has offered. Seams many have been helped by the get togethers and fundraisers put together through ST. Have met some great people and hope to meet many more in the coming years. As mentioned previously the good far outweighs the bad in many aspects.
