Wow, I need to go on a Dyke tour!
Just, wow. I love these things.
Cool geology links & explanations too! Always love learning about that stuff. Are dykes possible in limestone or sandstone? Or is it a feature exclusive to granitic/volcanic formed stone??
Reilly, that would be excellent! I've got a few but gotta get them off my hard drive so might have to wait until after the lords Bday. If MH2 finds this thread I know he will have some to add from up there.
Thanks everyone for the shots so far....
Here's a wet one I snapped when walkin the dog today.

I found the thread. I got lost looking for photos, though. I am a fan of dykes.
The Leap takes pride of place, perhaps. Some parts of it look like the back of a Royal Navy sailor from the old days, one who did not learn from discipline.
My favorite pitch at Squamish
A steep minimal dyke
One that strains your toes
Also, Women in Comfortable Shoes, Stiff Upper Lip, Land and Freedom, Sunblessed p1, whoops bedtime.

In answer to "Banquo's challenge"
That is Charlotte Dome, named after a rather fetching black dyke, I'm told.
People have been known to lie around here (me) and lay around here, but this dike/dyke thing shows a lot of disrespect, people. A LOT of dis. I know it's a joke to begin with, but why in hell do you perpetuate it?
Yah, my butt hurts. My child's a lesbian. Many here have thick hides. I do not. I do not wanna lay it out here as this is not the place, but this rudeness is beneath you gentlemen.

The Dyke Trap, I mean, Trap Dike, on Mt. Colden. It's softer rock so it's all eroded into a deep little cleft. So much fun to hike (and a way better route to the summit than the dumb old trail)

Here's a link to a guide for an area where the climbing takes place exclusively on dikes. Cordwood-jointed Columbia River basalt dikes that protrude 100+ ft. from hillsides in the Blue Mtns.

For the geology geeks out there. Here's a photo of a quarry wall showing a clastic dike composed of sand and silt that was hydro-fracked into the Columbia River basalt about 15,000 years ago when the area was suddenly inundated by the Missoula Floods. The rock in the photo would have been nearly instantaneously loaded with 600 ft. of water. This stuff is too chossy even for me...

Mouse, sorry if u were offended?? That is what I did not want to happen here.
Perhaps the spelling is something to do with our international language barrier? All my guides spell it with a "Y" & that's what I've always known it as? If I'm mistaken you'll have to please forgive me.
For the rest of youse, please carry on with the wonderful photos of beautiful rocks!
M buttress, what a cool face!

This is so frickin' hilarious! Today's m'daughter's birthday, MY initials are BJ and I sure ain't that way, so all I need say is what a crazy day why don't we all go play on some random intruding dykes Down Under or in BC or someplace where there is no issue. I made that pun, and I made that kid.
Merry Christmas, and happy traversing.
There ain't no reversing and you can't go back, either, except on the Taco Tor.
