I've seen 35 big game hunting seasons come and go. There are unfortunate accidents here in wyo every year. Mostly involving other hunters but sometimes innocent bystanders or wild life. Grizzly attacks on hunting camps or gut piles with people around are not common but happen more often than you would think. So people pack all the time. Add a little beer, maybe hunting success and the wild west atmosphere and bingo, gun accidents.

Ten Sleep canyon is not far out there. There is a small ski area, a lake, a fed fish hatchery and a golf course all in the area. There are several campgrounds and the area is popular as a destination for a lot of different interests. It is one of the main ateries across the Big Horn Basin over the Big Horn Mts to Buffalo, Sheridan and Casper and I-25. This ain't no third world part of wyo. It smells like a hunting season guns beer and ammo event.

Wyo is crawling with a big influx of oil field trash from all over since Dick sold us out for the gas fields west of the Winds. A windfall for Haliburton.

What, I'm agreeing with you! It could have happened exactly as you stated. In fact, I'd say that is the most likely scenario. Seriously.

I bet this wouldn't have happened if the climbers had been armed. They could have started shooting when they first heard the noises... as a way of politely saying "hey, don't shoot over here... respectfully yours, a fellow gun owner." Not seriously.

The point is, we need more people with easy access to more guns to avoid senseless gun violence... not background checks, mandatory safety classes, and gun regulation.

You may be agreeing, buy you're still a f*#king tool.

Well, since we,re speculating-
domestic dispute. The girl shot him in the gut over his mention of wanting some other chick to belay him, only she didnt hear the BE. That, or some argument over whether placing trad gear on a sport route is ethical.

The truth may or may not ever come to light, but rest assured it wont alter your passionately preconceived notions regarding firearms.

"I'd rather be shot with a 223 than an 22 any day. At least the 223 will go through you that 22 round just bounces around in you and tears you up all over."

A .223 55 grain at ~3,400 fps vs a .22 40 grain at ~1,200 fps ??
You have got to be joking. Perhaps the military should switch to .22LR

I am required by law to operate my car in a safe manner in approved areas only, register it, and insure it in case I am involved in an accident.

But alas, God never mentioned cars when he wrote the Constitution. I wonder why not.

More info:

The climber shot in Ten Sleep Canyon is recovering in a hospital in Billings, Montana. The Ecuadorian climber, Jose, and his Romanian-American girlfriend, Ana, have offered clarifying information regarding the incident. They wish for their last names to remain anonymous.

The couple was on a climbing vacation in the United States, enjoying the Ten Sleep limestone. They were sleeping by Leigh Creek when, at 2am, a large object fell on their tent, awakening them. Ana turned on her head lamp and looked outside to investigate, finding a thick branch. They assumed it had fallen from the tree above. Minutes later, a larger object fell on their tent. Worried that something even larger may fall on them, the couple turned on their head lamps and left the tent to investigate the situation and seek shelter in the car. Ana identified the second projectile as a grapefruit-sized rock next to the tent.

Upon exiting the tent, Jose was shot and fell to the ground. Ana heard the shot and saw movement in the bushes about 40 feet away, moving quickly toward the road. She describes the shot as “relatively quiet, maybe stifled.”

The bullet hit Jose in the chest, penetrating his lung and breaking several ribs. Local officials investigating the incident believe the caliber used may have been a .22.

The couple believes it was an attack, not a hunting accident. “Considering the branch and rock thrown at our tent, our bright headlamps and our voices, the shooter’s clear line of sight, and his close proximity, it is hard for us to imagine that it was an accident. Deer don’t wear headlamps,” says Ana.

Jose and Ana have no idea as to the motive of the attack, and did not have any altercations with anyone in the area. They emphasize that they harbor no ill feelings toward the people of Ten Sleep, and are focusing their energy on Jose’s recovery. He hopes to get back on the rock as soon as possible.

Nope, recipe seems pretty straightforward to me:

2 parts foreigner
1 part redneck
1 part gun
3 parts xenophobia
3 parts racism

Mix together in an ultraconservative bassackwards state.

In all fairness, Wyoming doesn't hold a monopoly on dumbass bigoted rednecks. They exist in every state (and country) I've lived in or visited.

Hope the victim heals OK.

What makes you think you need to be speaking for minorities all the time? They don't have their own voice? They can't fight their own battles because they are too weak? I know I'm the "brainwashed" conservative here and can't see all the racism, but why not let the other Hispanics or "brown" people as you like to call them, That are on ST defend themselves? Or maybe there aren't that many here to do that, oh no!! Is ST racist that more "brown" people aren't posting?
We have a fookin brain and can fight our own battles, don't need someone (a.k.a. progressive liberal white person) coming in to save us, can survive without you. Can't believe everything is so racial to you people. Even the victims are more understanding and don't just blame the "backwards community of rednecks"
What have you people seen or gone through that is so damaging that everything is about race? Racism exists, but fantasizing about how bad it is does no good. I don't know, perhaps I got really lucky and had to deal with racist or prejudice people every once in a while but never was held back by it, perhaps I'm ignorant to the plight of other minorities who were held back in life do to their race, perhaps I was not "brown" enough to be discriminated against, honestly, I don't know. I just am amazed you gyus are so fascinated by race.
