I don't think I qualify as a funkateer, and you probably wont dig this stuff but I feel it's my duty to try to spread.

Funk? That old 70s stuff? Know that sound, but don't know anything more.

For the uneducated in the ways of funk ... what is the recommended 5-10 album list to educate and initiate one into the ways of funk?

Enjoy!

That'd be a long list! Get some of the funk collection CD's - you can't go wrong there.

Locker, if you want to avoid WallFart and save some $$, you can download stuff cheap at allofmp3.com - an album is usually less than 2 bucks.

And if you guys don't mind some sampling and remixing, this is a cool album full of funkiness produced by King Britt, When the Funk Hits the Fan. Maybe a bit on the disco tip, but still smells funky.

yeah Bachar, if you like Fela you should check out Check Tidiane Seck. His only solo CD is called Mandingroove. It's got a bit of funk mixed into all the other genres, but pretty friggin' groovy. Seck is a B3 player with a long history in jazz. Played with some great musicians, but for some reason he waited until he was old to put out a solo album.

billygoat! Tidiane Seck? thanks for the tip - someone I haven't heard yet! cool... I dig that afro-funk sound. I love Fela but my personal favorite is Manu Dibango - check out "Electric Africa" - me and Al dude used to perform that one (not as good as Manu!)

klinefelter - you scored bro! Oh yeah - thanks for the King Britt tip - wasn't aware of that one either!
