Personally, I would vote for a presidential candidate in office if he refused to participate in his reelection campaign because he was to busy doing the job he was elected to do.
"I've been in office for %$^# years now, you know what I'm doing, I'll continue to do it. I'll be busy running the country, hope you vote for me."

Despite all of Governor Brown's talk of tax fairness, Proposition 30 circumvents the Legislature’s 2/3rd requirement to raise taxes. In fact, Proposition 30 is “electioneered” by Governor Jerry Brown and his allies to only require a simple majority to pass. Proposition 30 asks the 50% of California voters--who pay little or no state income tax--to pass a big tax increase on the top 2-3% of California taxpayers, who already pay roughly 50% of ALL state income taxes.
Simple majority...
Stop with the BS and personal whine.
First, the majority of the electorate has always had the ability to raise taxes. It is only the LEGISLATURE that requires a 2/3 vote to raise. Stop with the BS implying that something shady is happening. It isn't, it is the same as it always has been.
So you say:
to pass a big tax increase on the top 2-3% of California taxpayers, who already pay roughly 50% of ALL state income taxes.
after just whined about how you eat dogfood off the floor, because you can't afford bowls. yeah, right. So you don't have to worry about being in that 2-3%, DO YOU????
So that was all just phoney BS crying to generate false sympathy. Gosh, how will you manage on only a million or two a year????
Sob, Sob.

I don't think the Fiscal Cliff is a big deal, or has to be. They don't need to fix it till next year. The effects will not be seen till then. The main issue is whether the paralysis in the government shakes confidence in the dollar, this time, or the next time this kind of stuff happens. The debt is a big deal, but the cliff is something that can be dealt with.

And about that $4.59/gallon gas thing? The rest of the world pays more than that and isn't whining.
Why is it that Americans think gasoline should be cheaper for them than for anyone else? I've never understood that. It's as if they believe that being born in the US somehow should magically grant exemption from buying gas at real-world prices.

Ken M...Thanks for calming the nervous poster of this thread....Jerry Brown is like Obama in that he is dealing with a bag of shizz handed to him by , coincidentally , a republican...This is what happens when you starve the beast and try to maintain an infrastructure by lowering taxes for the rich...Duh !

I've said this before....make a point to help someone in need and you will realize what you do have....life is tough...We need to help each other....
Volunteer at a soup kitchen, homeless shelter, play music at a nursing home, help a friend in need, set an example > pick up trash in your community on a regular basis, help a Vet... ..
edit: "Why does this need to be stated? So YOU can feel better about yourself? Just be nice, do the right thing. Don't ask for praise".
Edit- Bluey, if you knew anything about me, you would know that i'm not looking for any praise...not my style or point.
I understand peoples sentiment... ... But......
ps..i have a full time job and pay taxes...

How about just getting a f*#king job and paying taxes? I have a kid I'm raising and a full-time job. My spare time is very limited. Your sentiments are really nice, but they seem to castigate people like me. I always pick us sh#t and always help out my buddies and strangers.
Why does this need to be stated? So YOU can feel better about yourself? Just be nice, do the right thing. Don't ask for praise.
Sorry, Nita...venting.

OK. Done. No-one else is worried about 2013. Everyone dies. Get things done. Why compare? We all have situations to deal with. When you pull your head out of your own stuff, you realize you are not alone.

Who's worried, I just won the lottery, and then... damn I woke up.
I see where Gramps is coming from, and other posters as well.
Jennie and I are lucky in that we are getting support that many Irish people would love, and it is mainly down to the efforts of the public health nurse, John. But yeah, I am worried about paying the rent and bills. But I have always survived, of course on my own. But now that I am a full-time carer for Jennie, yes I do worry.
But worrying keeps me awake at night, and then I do not get a good sleep, and then my health starts to deteriorate and then Jennie will be taken out of my care into full-time care, costing the taxpayer four times as much, if not more.
So, I lay there trying to sleep but stressed about bills, Jen's health, my health, the cat... the cat, he is a fat... like I am.
So I just put my nose to the grindstone and figure out where we can cut the fat out of our diet, budget, life.
So far so good.
However...
...Buddy, can you spare me a nickel?

Also, will some of you please stop whinging about Obama. Even if McCain was elected, he would have inherited the same mess that Bucshco left behind. I doubt that McCain could have done any better than Obama has, especially if McCain had Palin by his side, not that I am a big fan of Biden.
Some people say that Obama has polarized the nation. Bullshittt.
Bushie junior did it. Actually, let's go back to the 1980s to see the real split. Reagan, to begin with, did a deal with Tehran about the hostages (to begin with, I reiterate). And don't ask me for references, for those that doubt that, look it up yourself, you may learn something. Why Ronnie Raygun was lionized on his death is beyond me. But then, a lot of things are beyond me.
I did not vote for Obama, and he was stupid to make promises he couldn't keep, thanks to a large part to a very partisan and obstructing Republican party.
Does any Taco Stander really think that either party, in what is a "bicameral democracy", has the average American at the top of their agenda? I'd say that the Democrats edge this one a bit, the Republicans are just... cheaters.
But as a nation, as a people, as earthlings if I may go that far, we have to work together.

Reagan didn't divide the country like daddy Bush did.
Remember that he hired Lee Atwater to run his campaign, thus giving birth to an endless supply of political hatchetmen that even a dogcatcher needs these days.
I bet nobody here even knows how Lee Atwater was. He apologized on his death bed.
And we need some regulations on taxidermy. Licensing. Of course grandfather the really experienced ones in, but make all of those with less experience take a really tough test.
Happened in many states with my profession.
Oh. Here is Lee Atwater:

Lee Atwater, long term Bush friend and henchman, died with JFK's blood on his hands. His death bed admission was a vain attempt to clear his conscious.

I don't worry about 2013. I don't worry about politics, taxes, current events, etc. They loom far above my list of worries. It might not be wise or smart; but that is way it is.
The current economic state; isn't a product of politicians of the last 4, 8, 12, 16, or 20 years ago. It was created before that. It is the result of the last 150 - 175 years of greed, graft and misplaced trust. At least in this country.
Information is much more current (instant), more open (not by design), the media giants have greater spin dynamics, government and corporations have less stealth.

In the past few hours I have looked up and read several articles on Lee Atwater, boy, what a scumbag.
Now to go and pick Jennie up from the day centre, a centre we cannot afford but the authorities insists she goes, or she goes into State care. While I appreciate the efforts of the medical team (public health nurse, doctors, and the social worker, who is from Poland, doesn't understand some English idioms and, as the PHN, John, says, she - social worker - cannot think outside of the box, everything is black or white) their rules are as much of a strain on Jen and me as Jen's medical condition.
But is is a "game" we have to play.
Yeah Gramps, I worry, but it does not do much good at all. In fact, it worsens the situation.
Cheer up Gramps. If you are a true Taco Stander, we are all behind you in spirit and vibes.

I got bored of worrying about it. Things have been worrisome for well over a decade now and I can't be bothered to worry anymore. Probably our lives will end before any cataclysm anyway.
