Well, if you hate humidity and love beer, I gotta second the vote for Bend, OR:

I plan to move to Colorado when I can afford to. I was thinking Boulder since I know a few people there but should check out Ouray. I would much rather be in the mtns, and the Boulder scene is not too interesting to me. The key is to get steady work of some kind that allows telecommuting.

Elko? Climbski, I've lived in both Laramie and Reno and would again (in that order) but you're joking about Elko, right? Its barely adequate for buying gas! Lamoille canyon vs Donner or Vedauwoo for after work climbing?

We were right on the verge of moving back to San Diego, and found ourselves feeling really reluctant to leave our incredible base of friends in Seattle (which took several years to develop).

I can't stand the rain, but we like this region tons, otherwise! Huge variety of climbing, world class sea kayaking/whitewater kayaking/backpacking/scenery, etc.

A couple of days ago, we got back into a VW for road trips to get out of town on rainy weekends. Seattle is an amazing place, and it's close to lots of other amazing places.

Elko, right. I'm thinking anyone those on that list are out. I have a year or so. Oh, and the Reno VA is decentish.

Here's a question, kinda along the lines of what Werner suggested- do you really intend on moving somewhere to just climb? Is that your objective? Not my business, but if you're on VA disability, then... well, nevermind, just doesn't add up, but it doesn't matter.
My point is- what else do you want to do? If you want to climb, f*#k the cats, buy a van.
If you want a life, then well, what do you want?
Not an easy answer to the easy to ask question, I know, still working on it myself.
good luck.

I never said I was going somewhere just to climb. Not once.

What doesnt add up about my VA rating? I was raped. PM me for the details, I would love to set you straight. I won't waste my time here on an ot ass reaming.

At what point does me saying I'm not into road tripping involves me buying a van and road tripping? I did that for years, I'm over it. I like climbers. I like outdoor athletes and sports. I also like rednecks with guns and art. Most of all these days, especially after the Army, I like my comfy bed. All of which I've stated previously.

reno peeps, what's up with nw reno and or Lemmon valley/ stead/ silver lake area? House prices are disgustingly cheap. Id like to be more rural.

I may have to visit this Ouray place..

Move to Park City, Utah; I love it here. Way low humidity, awesome winter recreation, decent local cragging and ice climbing, excellent mountain biking, central to an amazing amount of quality climbing within a day's drive.

There's lots of little "suburbs" of Reno, north and south, that each have a little different flavor. They all seem to be pretty cheap right now.
What kind of place are you looking for? A newer house in a newer neighborhood or something more rural/ranch style with a bigger lot?
Buy or Rent?
Is a commute to/from Reno for work or whatever a factor?

Yea, I'm a friend of B.Law. :o
