Wow, Tarbuster. Wow. Your passion and love are almost over-whelming.

This morning I was thinking of Apoc’s initial comment under my question, and I thought it could be a silly thing to ask climbers what a climber is, and the questions could also be almost impossible to answer. People say that you can only really understand a movement, culture, or community after it has had its time.

I get what you’re saying. There is something about climbing that reaches deep into your heart and soul. It’s art, even with all the science.

I came up with the questions from Crimpie’s thread about suicide. There was something about death, life, challenge, conflict, risk, living-in-the-moment running throughout that thread for me. Suicide is climbing or defines climbers? No, but there is some kind of fascination there, don’t you think?

Your pictures are great, man. I wish I began to climb 40 years ago, instead of 6. I feel that I’ve missed something in my life. In high school we used to rappel into canyons with hemp ropes thrown around trees, but it never occurred to me that I could climb those things.

MikeL

(P.S. A 2-year old shoulder impingement has reduced my climbing; it’s so depressing.)

Mike, get it fixed! It's not worth skipping the things you love. They can fix almost all that now days unless you just have no cartaledge left.

thanks mikeL.

i find, for me, being a climber is all about raw passion for life (people) and climbing is the pure, uncut, primordial vehicle.

i have a bunch of "climbing" poetry.
not one word of climbing.
pure love poetry.
get it?

but i love this piece, really an excerpt from the "Who's" "behind blue eyes tune" and you gotta here Daltry sing it:

When my fist clenches
Crack it open
Before I use it or loose my cool
When I smile
Tell me some bad news
Before I laugh and act like a fool
And If I swallow anything Evil
Put your finger down my throat
And if I shiver
Please give me a blanket
Keep me warm any where you go.

(just posted it on the depression thread, because when i hear it, it invokes a strong feeling in me to face the abyss, mine, yours, and to be present, compassionate, helpful, committed.)
