You can do some amazing stuff shooting white smoke with a black background. Reverse the values and it looks pretty wild.
There is one woman on Flikr who does some amazing stuff.

I took off for several years and just took pictures. After a while you see things around you in an utterly different way. There is amazing form and beauty all around you if you start noticing.
The art of noticing.
Ahhh. Photoshop killed photography. Sad to say, but it is true. Sure there is still craft, but you won't see a single photograph published without going through software first. Not one.
Dick caught a beautiful pattern. What he did with it could not be replicated by any artist, and if he could have a printer spray it onto canvas with paint, he would get very wealthy from that.
20 years ago, that would be amazing. It is getting too easy, though. Not ragging on you, Dick, but photography has hit a wall that needs to be broken down to begin a new art.
I love your photographs because you see form that people walk right past.

Hah. I have a couple of hundred shots of the bean myself. Chicago at night is a total playground for taking pictures. In the summer, anyway.
