They look like weapons--medieval, updated with sewn webbing. It that what 'ducking' refers to?

So, Brutus, I'll re-state my question. Have you ever fallen on those things? In which case, Jay's 'ducking' may refer to what you do when they come whipping out.

Since I have no idea what I am talking about, I'll shut up.

Oh dear God, the man has never seen a Tri-Cam before!

Roger, you need to take a trip to the Gunks - I know a bunch of climbers here actually prefer them to SLCD's

The lite nuts had me thinking Sons, but the Riveted Yellow Mace would seem to imply something wider and wilder, e.g. S-S?

Please advise.

Hey Irish, (edit: and Dirt) go easy, I'm an easy target. The lastest and greatest in climbing hardware the last time I climbed on lead was hexcentrics--I left most of my standard hexes for rappelling anchors. Remember, I come from a time when we used to tape our ropes together to make 'um longer--knots just take up rope and get stuck. Just ask time-traveller-Ryan. He he.

If you are telling me that those maces (is that really what they are called, Dragon?) are designed for use in horizontal cracks, then they make some sense.

I'm thinking I should have never asked. Let's go back to slander, shall we?

Right on, Chris!
That's what I'm talking about - put that energy and effort into rad adventures, and stop causing suffering.
As far as the separate, non-climbing forum goes, I have to ask, why?
This is a climbing website. The forum is specifically intended, from the sound of it, to talk about climbing topics. It's not Chris Mac's place to provide the world with forums.
He does it for two reasons: it's an indirect marketing effort and a service to other climbers - not an obligation to provide romm and board for every discussion held by every person on the planet.
If you don't want to talk about climbing adventures - perhaps you should put some thought and effort into finding another forum, one more suited to the topics you wish to discuss. Or, put more time and effort into creating a forum more appropriate for your subjects.
This is a climbing forum. Let's talk about climbing!

"Let's talk about climbing!"

Talk away. If you say something interesting, you may incite a conversation. Or you may get slandered. I assume you are free to read or say anything that suits your fancy and reject the rest.

Watch out for that Werner dude. He has a habit of fitting people down to their proper size.:-))

As for me, I'll also watch out for that Ouch! guy. He's got a habit of altering pictures of things that's a little scary.
But I'll ignore the zero-ouch guy.

Tahoe Climber, lead by example? got photos? Great climbing stories are very cool, but there is more to the life of a climber. (I liked the OT base sliding at the leap, thread)If you really want'em, there are some climbing nerd sites out there; if that's what you need.

I feel so small...

Where was I?
Hexcentrics were a big improvement over their symmetrical forebears.

Tricams are useful in various places and placements, as are; quickies, Sliders, rock 'n'rollers, pitons, removable bolts, etc.
I like stuff that is easy to place and remove; until it gets too hard and I get scared, then I can take an hour just to chalk. -all too often.

Ouch! is it true that you taught Fred Becky how to climb?

-I think it's some of the scary stuff that makes it all work.

Jaybro - you're absolutely right. Time to get out and go climbing!

So far this season, only been able to get out and boulder, for the most part - Echo View, Pie Shop (lower), Glass Rock and down at the Washoe Boulders.
Ooh, and went to 90 (70) foot wall yesterday - it felt great to stretch out and grab some granite crimps in longer sections than in bouldering!
Okay, so it is top-roping, but there are some really fun routes out there to get in shape on.

Hey, have you been on the route(s) on the right side of 90-Foot Wall, just right of the pine tree?
Methinks there are a couple there that are the most fun routes I've ever done on toprope!

"Ouch! is it true that you taught Fred Becky how to climb?"

Nope Jaybro. Beckey is as old as what he climbs. I'm just a kid and never really taught anyone how to climb. Didn't do much of a job teaching myself.

So there you are sitting around a campfire in Joshua Tree after after a long day of climbing. What do you talk about? I bet it's not 100% climbing even though each and every person around the campfire is a climber.

It's true - you don't talk about 100% climbing topics while sitting around a campfire.
This is not a campfire, set up at someone else's cost, for the express purpose of discussing any and all things climbing related.
This is a climbing forum.
The distinction is noteworthy.
Just my opinion, that's all.

T-Climber, Top ropping rocks! I've only climbed @90' wall twice, I think, not sure about where the pine tree is, have to check the book, but I do remember having a lot of fun there.
Pretty wet around the pie shop these days?
I'm missing the Cave.
more climbing farther afield, I guess, except for that pesky gas thing.

Hey Jaybro
Yes, lower Pie shop is still a bit wet but who cares! It's early season!
Another good bouldering area is at Boulder Mountain - some fun stuff there, for sure.
Yes - you're right - better climbing right now farther afield - like in Bishop!! But the damn gas $$!
