Answer to trivia question on first page
Damn, 1978 what a year! Was there a drought? Yes, '78 was the last year of a multi year drought. I think it was 4 years duration. I know it ended in '78. Rained buckets/snowed heaps in spring '79. Shasta was pretty sparse in '75.
I hadn't seen this thread before. Makes my mouth water.

Did anyone add up routes grade III and up? Would be cool to have an updated list of them.

I've often thought Galen should at least get a mountain named after him in the Sierras to honor him, if not more.
We have much named after Muir. Wilderness named after Ansel Adams. Why not something similar for Galen Rowell?
Galen did so many challenging and worthy first ascents in the Sierras, he is often called "the Ansel Adams in color," prolific writer and beloved and missed by so many people in the climbing world and also in the outdoor wilderness adventure photography world.
I hope this can happen some day.

My one and only climb with Galen was doing the East Face of Mt. Powell with him and Beckey in 69
Christ man, you really got around in 1969!

Going over 3 passes to climb a 1000 foot route, why? Friend that repeated it said it was 6 pitches.
Yesterday and a day before yesterday, a few friends and I climbed two unclimbed walls in the high sierra. One route was exactly the size of Cyclorama and the other had about 1,600 feet of sustained climbing and another 400+ ft to the summit. Had to do much less work to approach, although it was 5,000 ft of elevation gain, all cross country. Sorry for the spray, but I am trying to show why I personally think Cyclorama is too much work for what it is. But who knows where this summer takes me...

Damn Alpine! Nice pics.
I tried to find and climb Rowell's route on the east face of Fin Dome, but Secor has no description on where it is located or what to look for. Nothing looked like 5.7. ;)
