Hardly know what to say ... one of my best friends and primary climbing partners for going on twenty years. Incredible friend and bomber partner with a lot of adventures together. Certainly one of the really good guys - super sad right now..... RIP my friend... Paul

Very sorry to hear the news. I only met Jack once or twice in passing, but by all accounts he was a good man and a fine climber.

What a bummer. I never met Jack in person, but I've corresponded with him online about ice conditions. Think he even gave me the conditions/beta when I went out and climbed Bridalveil. His passing is a big, big loss to the community. RIP.

Such terrible news. Jack and I had a great heart-to-heart at the Bozeman Ice festival last month. Once and for good we put away a few old issues that had nagged at both of us, We parted with a big hug and expressions of love for each other. It left me feeling clean and good for myself and Jack, too.
My heart goes out to Pam.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jack a bit over a week ago at the Ouray Ice Festival when I took an advanced ice clinic he led. He helped me open my eyes to additional possibilities with excellent suggestions and advice, and freely offered beta on several routes outside the park I was planning to climb.
Such incredibly sad news. My condolences to his family and friends.

I am so terribly sad. I really thought Jack was beyond this somehow. He told me himself last winter in Switzerland that he was slowing down, not doing the hard scary stuff anymore, so he could stick around and have fun with Pammie as they grew old together. Just had a wonderful visit with Jack in Bozeman... first met Jack in the early 80's when I moved to WLA and he lived in Santa Monica. Many years of memories and some great adventures... I was counting on many more with Jack and Pam. I miss you already dear old friend. My heart goes out to his sister and Mom and most of all to Pam. I love you Pammie... see you very soon.

Truly sad, I wish his wife much peace. I heard the ID on the way home from paddling. Jack must of been one fantastic person.
They don't just name ice climbing fatalities on the local news here in Hawaii. Tonight they did.
Aloha Sir...

Very very sad... Shared a house with Jack and Pam in Boulder for a while in late '80's. Loved them dearly and so respected their relationship and friendly way. Jack's climbing record is staggering. The 2nd ascents on El Cap and stuff in AK and Canada... He used to talk about climbing with Porter... Jack really took the Valley methods to the mountains but came back alive and was just a regular guy to so many of us. He loved Boulder. Bldrjac was a great handle. Thanks to those who provided photos... He was a damn handsome guy too... Best wishes and love to Pam...

Jeff, good to hear you and Jack had a talk. I also know he did the same with a few other people, may we all do that before the end.
I'll miss Jack, climbed with him a fair amount over the last 25 years. Rock, ice, whiskey, coffee, all fun.

Pam- I have fond memories of the golden days in the Black Hills and Wild Iris when you and Jack would stop in. Please know I'm holding you in my thoughts. Later, when you can breathe, I'd love to talk with you. amysunderwood@yahoo.com
