With either, it all depends on the stakes, and if you can afford them.

CLimbing is more fun.

When some idiot ( and tehy act like it too) catches 10 10 , AA, KK, and AA again in 9 or ten hands, poker can be maddening.

you want maddening.

played $3/$6 tonight. On one side of the table (mine) we have poker players that know the game. On the other side we got a bunch of fat people ready to gamble. IT was easy to read.

mid position i get 33. Flop comes TT3. Should be a huge payoff in my favor, right? Up against Q7o. Fat bitch runner runner 7's. Fat dude next her plays 42o a number of times. I watch that nizzle win twice. Only down $10. Should be up $100+.

I hate limit.

I get a way bigger rush on climbing. Easy question.

Yeah - I'm just going to throw all my money on the table and entertain myself in some other fashion. Clearly, I'm going to be out-pokered with this j-tree crowd!! It'll be fun to watch at least....

Sometimes after a big bluff or a big bet on a hand I'm not sure of, I'll be light headed and shakey all over - arcing on adreneline. That only happened in climbing when I was first starting out.

Before I started getting hurt a lot, (not climbing related) Climbing was nothign but fun for me, ever. I never got any adrenaline rush, I gues cause I was not climbing for that. Not to say I didn;t take chances, but climbign is more like chess-- you are the master of yoru own destiny, if you can hold it together and calculate correctly.

But Poker, you can do your absolute best, play perfectly, and still LOSE to a wanker, LOL.

Yeah I get a rush from poker, but I don't like it. Poker is like work if you do it right LOL. I got rushes in chess too. (if I had put the effort into poker that I put into chess, I'd be rich-- I was in the top 10% of chess players-- not much in chess but huge in poker, LOL!)

Poker and chess cause stress.

For me, Climbing reduces stress. I've always been more of a physical activity is good for me n makes me happy kind of guy.

Was never afraid climbing until I got injured and climbed way over my head (if I'd been in shape and uninjured it would have been fine)and runout. WHen you know you are where you are not supposed to be, haha, that's scary.

EEEK, what a ramble.

The Riviera Casino makes money every weekend of the year, with one exception. It loses the weekend of the US Chess Federation National Open.

HAHA, chess players don't gamble!!!

There's no money in chess, unless you are seriously, seriously good-- world class and then some.

A fide master cert and a dollar might get you coffee.

You play poker at an equivalent level, and you can make a living.

Nature, keep in mind that those fat guys are the ones who pay you off when they don't catch runner runner bullsh#t.

Don't focus on results. You made correct decisions and they made bad ones, so you still won (had +EV) even though you lost the hand. Poker is only stressful and maddening if you pay attention to results in individual hands (or tournaments).

The HoH books mentioned earlier are great for NL tourney theory, and the ToP should be read no matter what your game is. But for those of you playing $3-$6 limit (or other small stakes games) the Sklansky Holdem Poker for Advanced Players book won't be nearly as benefitial as Small Stakes Holdem (by Sklansky, Malmuth and Miller).

fracture. I am keeping that in mind. If I hit a more "normal" distribution of cards I walk away ahead. I know they are overplaying their hands. In the long run they lose their ass. In the long run I'm way up ATM. I want to return today with my fishing pole and hope for better cards.

I caught pocket Jacks three times last night. Everyone overplayed their nizzle and paid me off pretty well. Two of the three times I was in the BB with them and raised. Nobody cared. With one set of jacks the flop comes a bunch of rags. I bet and a few call. The turn brings a king. I check - the table checks. That was such an easy read. Nobody was slowplaying a K. I bet the river (another rag) and take down a nice pot. The dealer comments "that king musta been scarey". "Not after the turn got checked", I reply.

I heard some funny comments from the fishes last night. I played 85s from the BB. The table was loose and very passive - no preflop raising. Typically there were five in the pot preflop. Even had nine in the pot (full table) at one point. The flop with my 85s came 85Ao. Nobody had an ace and my betting didn't scatter anyone. That rulled. AFter that I turned up my hand I mumbled "suited connectors". On guy comments "those we're not connected". I said nothing.

First time I ever heard this term "second nuts". huh?

SSHE is a good book. I like all of sklansky's stuff. The section in Advanced hold'em on playing loose passive players is very good and certainly does apply. Otherwise I agree that it won't go far at low-limit tables.

One of the guys at my end of the table flopped a gut draw to my JJ. With my BB raise he put me on a high pair. I raised after the flop and he folded. He looked at me and said "I don't want to draw out on you and make you mad". I appreciated that. He would have hit is gut draw on the river. I bought him a drink. The fat people woulda played that nizzle. It's tough - you want to play poker correctly and see it played correctly. At the same time you know full well it's the bad players that pay you.

Easy cure for all the "I got sucked out by a tourist" pussies..... MOVE UP IN LIMIT.

Low limit is a cesspool of bad calls and odds defying play.

Now if someone had any organizational skills....

We could have a tourney or play online at some provider (that lets Macs play!)

Set up table Supertopo, get all the goons to show up at a prescribed time and then play with fake $$$ to keep the site from taking our hard earned $$$ in rake.... then settle up later via paypal.

Sounds easy enough. Can a bunch of climbing flakes ever pull this off??? naw...... maybe??

Hollywood Poker and FTP are the only two sites I know of that'll work with your mac.

I run virtual PC and play that way. I also built a poker PeeCee.

In short the answer is 'no'.

I already have a pokeroom acct, and I like to play late at night between 10 and 1. Play money seems kind of bad because there are so many idiots. It would be great if there was a competitive incentive to make losing more unpleasant, so in the spirit of that,

You guys all suck and I'm going to school you.
