As of this time, 9:29pm PST, everyone who signed up has gotten a confirmation response. So if you signed up, MAKE SURE YOU GOT THIS EMAIL. This serves to ensure that my emails are not SPAM filtered and that you should receive the most important email I will send on Dec. 2nd 2011 which will contain the name and mailing address of your recipient.

Two people who tried to sign up are NOT currently signed up. You need to email me back with your mailing address.

Thanks again everyone and lets keep the names rolling in! As more names keep rolling in I will send out more confirmation emails.

I had fun coming up with an idea. It made me focus a bit on the person behind the avatar. It made the people more human for me.

Exactly!

Come on Anders; jump in the pool.

Okay - one of the elves here convinced me to play! I thought being on the road would be a problem, but realized that my Santa can send my gift to the post office general delivery in Joshua Tree, and I can pick it up there.

I was in the 2009 Secret Santa Exchange and it was one of the highlights of my holiday season. Loved choosing a gift and sending it out, and of course receiving one - hahah. And the bonus was following the thread and seeing what was going on with everyone else and their Santas!

I have received commitment from 14 people to send money, and received money from 7, for Strider's gift.

i am thinking of doing a 12 days of Christmas thing, with 12 individually wrapped gifts. what do you think?

please give me gift ideas offsite.

To those of you pitching in for a gift for Santa, thank you guys so much. I am a little embarrassed to be honest and I don't really feel I am all that deserving so please don't go to too much trouble. But do know that I really do appreciate all your kind thoughts and the effort made on my behalf.

Lots of people signed up, and we can always use more! Let's keep the names rolling in folks!

While I've been super busy this year reading my subscription to Mountain Gazette, AND I'm moving next week, I suppose I can still find time to find a gift. /jk Who know's maybe you'll get something from little Bavaria. ;-)

Count me IN!

kinda suprised, of all the people that post here only #25 ?! Well, this is my first year. I don't know why I signed up, cause figuring out a gift is always a challenge for me.

Strider, maybe more would sign up if we made it a little more user friendly. Like folks here providing some inexpensive gift ideas etc.

Bubble envelope mailers are generally pretty inexpensive to ship things in. If we have no idea who the person is we are sending a gift to how/who can we ask to get ideas @ their interests? lynne

There is a joke there but as this is a(n) Holiday thread I will leave it untouched.

For anyone sitting n the fence... this is the third year I have participate and for each of the previous years I have received WONDERFUL presents! Last year's Secret Santa box was quite unreal... lots of GREAT, USEABLE, NOT-CHEAP FUN STUFF!!

Come on! Do it! You will not regret it!

Not even close to the actual numbers. Remember, you do not have to post ON THIS THREAD to participate, you must only be a member of Supertopo before I announced the exchange and send me an email. In fact, there are a couple on this thread who say they have signed up but not have. No problem with speculating though... But IF we stay on track with sign-ups, this year will blow previous years away. LETS KEEP IT GOING FOLKS!!! The more the merrier!

That is kinda the point of this thread, a discussion about the Secret Santa Gift Exchange. I am personally a pretty low expectations kinda guy and I like to get and give eclectic gifts in situations like this. Overall this is a LOW pressure kind of deal though so just relax and take some time to look around as you go about your normal routine the next few weeks and see what interesting things you see. A general list of things that would probably be appreciated and generally in-expensive under ~$20(in my opinion):
 climbing dvd's
coffee mugs and maybe some coffee from where you live
reusable water bottles (again from where you live)
t-shirts (I think we all know a guy who sells climbing t-shirts)
books, mag subscriptions, etc... Used books stores can often be a wealth of great, out of print books for cheap. Ebay is a good source as well, just have the seller ship direct to your santa recipient to avoid double shipping charges and delay
pocket knife with ability to clip to harness
if you sew you could make a chalk bag
it's winter soon so knit gloves, wool caps, etc... are always nice
I think finding something unique to the area you live and sending that is always special. Coffee, tea, wine, local brews, modest arts and crafts, etc...
Climbing tape and chalk, you can never have enough
 a Ferrari

If we have no idea who the person is we are sending a gift to how/who can we ask to get ideas @ their interests? lynne

This one is a little bit more tricky. First, please remember that after names are released, you still have two weeks to buy, make, find and finish your gifts which hopefully is ample time. Second, I am hesitant to start giving names out too early because then the random selection process is no longer random. The early adopters are paired with early adopters and the late comers are paired with late comers, i.e. not very random.

Also, to those of you with privacy concerns who are thinking about signing up... this has been brought up in years past with a few people (this year included as a matter of fact) and I am more than happy to work with you. Just let me know your concerns and we can chat about it.

AGAIN, to sign up, just email me your username and address to

Perhaps the 'gift' to 'Santa' should be say $5/participant, with the total donated to some worthy cause?

Lynne-

Read their posts to help you understand who they are. It is my opinion that by participating in this gift exchange, you will find the most giving people on this forum. Maybe it is OT and not hard core, but it is people that are taking the time and effort to let fellow taco DADZ know that we are a family.

Hope that makes some sense.
