They're racing, not riding.
That's why.

Being a spectator at a point to point road race is probably one of the most boring ways to watch a bike race, BUT, euros made the experience all their own. Bring a couple of bottles of your favorite adult beverage, chair, umbrella, snacks and relax and watch the day, then the race go by. Criteriums are much more spectator friendly, since you get to see them go by a lot and there are usually a lot more crashes, which of course is what the gallery wants to see.

Good drama on day 1!! Contador down by 1:20 to Evans, Brad, Levi, Tejay, Horner, Klodi, Andy and Frank.
Bummer for Christian, Ryder and Tommy D. Garmin is hurting for GC.

I cant be the only one taking immense pleasure in seeing Contador drop down the GC :) I know he will take back chunks of time in the mountains and individual TTs. I just hope that this years winner is a 1st timer / surprise. I'm glad to see Thor in yellow as he seems like a really cool guy / class act. So far the Tour is living up to its name. Two great stages so far!

MMCC serouisly...at the Amgen Horner danced his way up the our mountains which are more difficult. It will come down to Team Radio Shack deciding who has it between Horner and Liepheimer.

So is there anywhere one can watch the Tour (ideally the whole thing, but even the highlights would be OK) online? I don't have TV. I likely won't bother tuning in until the mountain stages, but it would be interesting to see online if possible.

Garmin doesn't have to care about GC any more. They have won the most prestigious stage. Every member of the team now has a TdF stage win.
I am so glad Bernard Eisel didn't get eliminated.

Yippee! A Norwegian, Hushovd, is leading.
Plus Ryder Hesjedal, a Canadian of Scandinavian ancestry, did well after being held up by a big crash in the first stage, and is now 61st. (He was 7th overall in 2010.)

This is quite a race so far, and it's only day 2.
Contador was going to attack in the mountains anyway, but now he has to.
We'll see if he learned anything about staying out of trouble by staying up front on the flat stages this week.
Weschrist, if you are interested in seeing some exciting bicycle racing, just watch the last five or ten minutes of any race this week. And turn up the sound, too, because Phil Ligget calling the sprint-finish to a flat stage is as good as sports broadcasting gets.

Wes: "The difference, to me anyway, is the difference between organized "professional" athletes competing under a set of regulations and taking themselves very seriously vs. people doing what they love and pushing boundaries of their activity... something I figured climbers could appreciate."
Wes, you're saying bike racers don't love what they're doing and not pushing the boundaries of it? WRONG!!!!
Bicycle racing is the art of learning to love to suffer. My personal experience is that racing and climbing have a lot in common for the participant. I thought I suffered deeply many times while climbing one thing or another, but after I started racing, the level of suffering went way up. I would say if you want to see what the allure of racing is, go and try it. Find a local crit, buy a one day lic. pin on a number and see what it feels like.

Hell Yeah! A USA win on July 4th and Tyler's first stage win. One of many to come I would think!

Tyler looking strong on the 4th! Cav just didn't have it today. Did you see him leaning on Thor at the halfway sprint? Pretty close to a tantrum. Looked like Thor was holding his line to me.
Really great helicopter shots at the end. The helicopters have really changed these races.

To me Columbia-Highroad just don't look as sharp in their leadout trains as they did a year or so ago. But either way, this tour is shaping up to be very exciting and fun to watch.

Today's stage was fantastic from both a racing and spectating perspective. The beautiful countryside, small villages, small winding roads, combined with a course profile that put a sting in the finale, it satisfied the fan in me.
After listening to Chris Horner's description of flatting within the last 20K or so and then making his way back to the front to finish only 8 seconds off the winning time was very cool. Kudos to Thor for keeping the Yellow

Has anyone signed up for the NBC Versus all action coverage this year. I did the versus online deal last year and apart from the lack of background noise worked well. I don't have cable so this is the only way I tend to watch it.
How does the NBC online package compare?
Thanks.
