I'm in Khorog on Eastern Tajikistan. An awesome place and definetly a breath of fresh air after Iran. There is a huge difference between a country with a secular government and one with a theocracy. A little new routing on the agenda for tomorrow.

The way things are going Jim, we'll have a theocracy here by the time you get back.
What a great adventure but as they say, it hasn't happened till we see the pics!
Stay safe.

Tajikistan is the bomb! Just got down from doing a new 12 pitch route on an unclimbed, unnamed 16000 ft. rock peak with a beautiful summit and no easy way to get there. We did it in a 15 hour push from a basecamp at 14000 ft. Tajikistan is about as mountainous as a place can be. Back in Estados Unuidos on 7/6.

Get lots of pictures, I read just yesterday in the newz that they are practicing shooting off missiles right now to prep for something.....
Yesterdays news everywhere in the world:
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/iran-secretly-tested-nuclear-capable-missiles-113624123.html
"Iran has carried out secret tests of ballistic missiles capable of delivering a nuclear payload in breach of UN resolutions, British Foreign Secretary William Hague said Wednesday."

Made it back after an epic trip with unscheduled stays in Almaty and Abu Dhabi. Tajikistan was rad- lots of first ascents waiting to be plucked. We did a 14 pitch new route up a sweet 16000 ft. unclimbed technical rock peak- the Sierras on steroids. Iran also had its moments. Trip report to follow.

I had dinner with an Iranian couple a few years ago and they Raved about the climbing and landscape. I'd be super interested in how the ladies on the trip found it. All the online info is very positive but in Tourist areas not out in the hills.
Lots of Photos..Please

There's a report on the exchange, and mountaineering in Iran, in a recent issue of The Atlantic. Written by Gregory Crouch.
http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2012/04/the-peaks-of-persia/8914/
The magazine version includes a photo of someone who looks suspiciously like Jim, styling up a crack on Alam Kuh, Blue Camadonini in tow. He isn't actually named in the article, though.

I only see one picture, at the top of the article, in the snow?
I see no crack, camalot, or suspicious Donini character.
What am I doing wrong?

Sorry - that photo doesn't seem to be in the online version. But if it ain't donini, it's his identical twin.
