Why can't you just disappear and leave your account active, yet unused?
Seriously. Is it about closure?
Having an open account makes you feel all shifty and restless inside?

That's right, crime doesn't happen to people in real life, just in the movies.
Same with bad falls rockclimbing, cancer, and other bad things--they're just made up to scare people.
Just go through life with a big ol' smile on your face and do whatever you feel like, don't worry about consequences, and everything will work out great!
i was speaking quit literal....axe murder. But your right people do kill other people. i just like to think most people on the side of the road need some help, thats all.

I think CCR said it best:
...sometimes I pick 'em up--usually I don't, it depends on the situation/destination.

Strange I had an experience very similar to yours and in just about the same spot.
I was trying to get a ride to Bishop from Tuolumne Meadows. I was standing at the junction of 120 and 395 for about 3 minutes when a VW pulls over to give me a ride. A big guy asks me where I am going and offers me a ride. We ride along a ways conversing about who we were and how we came to be where we were. He was a few years my elder; and a Viet Nam era fly boy (this was 1982) who lived in Bishop. I was 15 when they ended the draft.
We had been riding about 15 minutes when he said he normally didn't pick up hitch hikers but considered the fact that I was standing next to Tioga Pass Rd and had a daypack I was more than likely a "park type" and probably "an ok dude". As he was saying this he reached down into the door pocket of his door and pulls out this .45 Auto with the hammer back. He says of course if I wasn't who he thought I was he could settle it any time.
I told him he judged me right, I was a harmless park type, just trying to get to Bishop to get my car and if he didn't think I was being honest he could pull over and I would get out. He said that probably wasn't necessary and put the gun between his legs and started looking in the ash tray and adjusting the radio.
I tried to relax and sit real still and avoid any part of a conversation that might not be agreeable.
After a while I kind of forgot about the gun; and just shot the breeze with him. He kept bringing the war up but I would change the subject and talk about something else.
He gave me a ride to the door of the shop where my car was being repaired in Bishop, shook my hand and drove off. I can't recall ever hitchhiking any time since.

Tobia -- yeah, that's freaky ... it is a little scary, but sounds like I am a "park" type too ...
Kind of scary though ... you know, you can kind of blindly stumble into it.
Another time, I caught a ride after bailing out of the John Muir Trail during an October 2-foot snow storm, hitching back down to Lone Pine to pick up my car ... Two guys (very gay) picked me up and gave me a ride. They were nice and I have no issues with that ... but it just goes to prove ... whether you are a hitcher or a hitchee ...
You roll the dice!
