32 Million X 76.8% for adults(???) = 24.6 Million adults???
(25.4 Billion short-fall/24.6 Million Adults) =
(2.54 x 10^10/2.46 x 10^7) = 1.0325 x 10^3 = $10,325/adult
So, here in CA it is a little harder to do.
HFCS,
Good call. Thanks for checking.
Yes, I did it very quick before work and having my green tea, ooooopppppssss!
You are right:
1.0325 x 10^3 = $1032.5/adult
More manageable but still a lot more than $30 something/adult.
Thanks for checking. :-)

"5 states in the U.S. specifically prohibit collective bargaining for teachers. Their ACT/SAT scores are as follows: 44th VA, 47th TX, 48th GA, 49th NC, 50th SC. Wisconsin is currently tied for 2nd."
Anyways, Wisconsin's education system is fantastic. In all of my experience with universities, UW-Madison is far and away the best institution I have ever been associated with. k-12 education in Wisconsin was also superior in many ways, as demonstrated by results.

Does not matter whether its the Dems or GOP, our politicians for the last 20+ years have sold out this country and run it into the ground with zero fiscal responsibility.
How hard is it to balance budget? Most people undertand that you can't spend more than you make, if you do there are cosequences. Who has benefited from all the spending? the people, in form of unrealistic pension plans, pork projects for the various states, ect. In the short run, the economy and voters benefited from deficit spending, and tax cuts. Now its time to pay up, and everyone is going to have to take a hit, its not going to be pretty and painless, but has to be done. Alot of people are living in dream world to think the feds can keep spending like we have. If it's not fixed soon our currency is not going to be worth the paper its printed on, and we are going to be looking at major inflation, and much much higher unemployment.

Unions are just conspiracies to get higher wages. Klimmer, you are really slipping by supporting them.
Corniss said What part of broke don't Libs understand?
What part of the unions agreed to meet all (ALL!) of the governor's financial demands don't you understand?

Got that right.
And some would rather spill blood than give it up.

One cannot understand national economics in terms of the economics of one's personal pocketbook. Anyways, this whole debate isn't about money. Unions agreed to the exact benefit and pay cuts that walker proposed, he is trying to make it so he can cut again in the future without discussion. It is about the right of the workers to negotiate.

re: Peak Oil
And Highlander,
your spot-on post didn't even mention Peak Oil, the gravest of factors - when our exorbitant population supported by cheap energy is taken into the thinking.
everyone is going to have to take a hit, its not going to be pretty
But the poorer, the uglier. Like always.

Fatty said Us Repubs will not cave in to tax increases, so he, the ultra liberal will have to make some severe cuts, only one month till D-Day.

Given the circumstances, any legislator (federal or state) who proposes a solution to budgetary woes that doesn't involve significant tax increases, preferably a national sales tax, and anyone who believes that tax increases aren't necessary, is in fantasy land or dishonest or both. As the US already has the lowest taxes in the world for a liberal democracy of any size, especially for corporations and the wealthy, it's a necessary step.

If you don't like taxes move to Mexico. Mexico has the lowest taxes in the western hemisphere.
This country is not broke. The U.S. is still the richest country in the world.
We Spend 1 trillion+ dollars a year on being the world police. We have military bases in 132 countries & give 100's of billions in military ass. to some of the worst leader.
We are in a transformation period. We are quickly moving from a some what balanced society to one of super wealthy.
What fatrad , coniss chopper, & others don't seem to realize is they are the targets.
Might Hiker you are right. We can cut the military or raise taxes to pay for it or take it out of the middle class.

Klimmer, eliminating teacher and public employee pensions is a necessary step in balancing budgets. Help your fellow tax payers out, and quit sucking on the public teat.
Let's not equate teacher's pension with all public employee pensions. Here in CA, the CA Prison Guards Assn. has been successful in capturing really generous pensions. Teachers, not so much.
Plus, do you really believe that it's the teacher's pensions that is/are crippling state budgets? If you do, I've got some great swamp land that I've love to sell you, maybe a bridge too.

I agree we can not afford to be the police of the world, that is a luxury we can no longer afford. Cut foreign aid of all types, we need to take care of our own before helping others.
Cut federally funded welfare programs/pork projects, let state governments fund these programs how they see fit through their respective taxes.
Tax increase accross the board.
Lower the corporate tax, we have the highest corporate tax in the world, which is why many U.S. companies have gone abroad. Need to incease our exports.
Increase tariffs/taxes on imported goods.

hate to say it....
but this is what the republicans have been all about for about the last 30 year....?
you bet they don't like people standing up for their rights as workers.....
all they care about is making money for themselves, and their friends... Just ask fatty, he'll let you know what they are all about... he's one of them too (the main reason I can't trust that guy)

baby-steps fatdad, baby-steps... The real reason the right is attacking teacher's pensions? To create future generations of biased, misinformed, anti-intellectual idiots who will vote Republican.
