Very sad to hear of Paul's passing.
We had a great time working for him on the Bute location last year and agreed it was one of the best jobs we'd ever had.
Condolences to Paul's family and friends.
He was a wild man and will be missed.

I am deeply saddened to hear about Paul's death.
As posted early in this thread, Paul had a great eye for routes coupled with the talent and perseverance to establish some truly great and memorable climbs.

My condolences to his friends, and family. If I'm not mistaken, Paul was in a PBS program about climbing in Jtree. This had to be fifteen or twenty years ago.

We have lost a great one.
Whenever I am in the area, I am still astounded when I look up at the superhard routes on the Sentinel. Years ago I watched Paul working on the Scorpion.

I meet paul climbing some time around 1987... fun guy to hang out with....i had not seen him for about 4 years and then there he was. Large as life... at a flight park where i fly hang gliders. Paul had started to fly Paraglider so about 5 days per year for the last 6 years i would see paul out at flying sites...
Crazy but i happened to bump into Paul at a Gas station about 10 days ago...

It seems to me like the world is spinning backwards the last few weeks - there has been so much bad news in my circle of friends and family.
Paul was never a close friend but we climbed together some and saw each other a lot in Joshua Tree and Idyllwild. I spent at least a decade with some of his routes there on my regular circuit.
Misfits
Solo Dog
Chameleon
Stand and Deliver
Rap Bolters are Weak
etc.
I think I did the 2nd lead of his Games Without Frontiers but I can't say that was "circuit." More like a one timer.
I said upthread before this awful news that Paul had an eye for a route. I want to elaborate a bit. He found and established beautiful routes which were right in front of all of us for years.
A lot of the best climbing I have done in Joshua Tree was the result of Paul Borne's creative and uniquely insightful approach to finding the best new climbs at a time when most of us thought all the cherries were picked.
Thanks Paul!!

Oh man. Paul and I climbed Half Dome together in '86, it the first wall for both of us. I can't really say we remained friends, but he always had a smile and a friendly greeting whenever we ran into each other.
My condolences to his family and friends.

I can hardly believe it. Damn. RIP Paul. You'll be sorely missed.
I think more prople I know have been killed or injured in paragliding accidents than in climbing accidents. Very sad indeed.

There will be a remembrance held for our "buddie", Paul Borne, held at Soboba Sun.Dec.9. This is a gathering of family, friends and pilots. Sometime around noon. Please bring a story and some pictures of Paul, that would be very cool. Oh yea, bring your wings, Paul would have wanted it that way! Please call Kosha if you have any Questions 951-231-5104

Thanks for the post on Paul's Dec. 9 Remembrance.
Probably won't make it as it's a long way from Squamish.
Most likely there'll be a brother or two there to pass along my respects.
I'll take some time that day to remember a wild man with a big heart.
Fond memories of hanging out with Paul at Homathko Camp.
He was a keen guitar player and he borrowed mine to sing a tune he'd wrote.
It was called "I'll Play for You" and I'll always remember that.
RIP PB
