They were probably quoting this article which is a reprint from the AP:

The climbers are down and safe. Apart from a broken bone in her back and being pretty battered up, the injured climber is doing fine.

That's great news. Glad to hear everyone is [more or less] OK. Thanks so much for the firsthand "trip report" and the current info from Werner et al.

What were the weather conditions? Any snow?

I am curious as to the exact method of a rescue like this. I read Werner's presumed sequence above. When you say "lower", is there some sort of winch system involved? Do you use ropes or cables? Do you rebelay the ropes, or just use one long ass rope? What kind of ropes - regular static 11mm caving ropes? Or do you attach the injured climber to the rope with a rap device, and "ride" them down, like we do when we "ride our pigs" when rappelling with very heavy pigs.

Also, when I was on Mammoth Terraces this fall en route to Albatross, we watched a helicopter rescue just around the corner somewhere around the Nose. It appeared as though a rescuer was flown in, and that the victim was flown out in a litter. From what Werner writes above, no litter was used to fly out the victim?

What determines whether a helicopter will be used in the actual rescue, or knott?

Cheers,

Park rangers helped lower the trio down the 7,500-foot granite monolith to safety on Monday afternoon.

Really?? lol

You need to climb with me, Silver. We frequently have "all you can drink nights" on the summit after finishing a wall. And gourmet cans, heated round the campfire. What could be better?

big action on the big stone. sarah, glad to hear you'll be fine with time. i've broken that procese thing also and yeah, it hurts bad for a few days. then slowly heals up. you would think things would be more solid on the TRIP, but really, there is a lot of loose stuff still up there. ss

ps you know what i say about rescues...that we each are entitled to one, but try not to have a second. LOL

Werner, don't be fooled! Don't answer PtPP!! He's just trolling for a clever way to get all his haulbags airlifted off at the end of a route.

Sarah (or other team mates), as much as I could use a couple extra Aliens and stuff, send me your info and I'll get you some gear back from P11. I guess we were the first team up there this year.

I ended up placing a ballnut, a small brass nut, and a black alien to get past the missing flake and over to the first bolt of the ladder. It didn't seem too loose in there now, but a tad trickier than the rest of the pitch.

OMB, I was wondering if that gear that was mentioned on Moof's report belonged to them.

Good on ya for pulling this thread up and offereing to get their gear back to them, and letting us know the new gear order. +3 karma points to you.
