Hey Lois, You asked to be notified when you were being condescending. So here is a start.

Well put, indeed. The left attributes far too much "power" to Fox News. They cannot accept the fact that the right opposes their agenda due to independent thinking and conflicting ideology.

Pure condescension.

....

There is definitely a lot of ugliness occurring in America.

How about a categorized list of "lies"

How about I show a few pictures so you don't get confused by any big words?

Fox News reports the lies...and their viewers believe them..

An NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, released last week, identified four frequently told lies about healthcare reform:

• It will give coverage to illegal immigrants.

• It will lead to a government takeover of American healthcare.

• It will pay for abortions.

• It will create "death panels" and allow the elderly to die.

According to the poll, Fox News viewers were overwhelmingly more likely to believe these lies than viewers of MSNBC or CNN.

The list goes on.

Be that as it may. I do not know who Mr. Way is.

No you don't. Because you're a non-climber posting on a Yosemite-centric climbing forum.

I DO have a theory and it does represent a pet peeve of mine.

LEB, your theories pretty well represent most people's pet peeves.

I do not see where it is condescending.

You were attacking an entire group. Saying that they don't have the ability to understand something you find is simple to understand. That is condescending.

The condescending part is the fact that you actually believe that you know what the "agenda" of the "left" is. And you don't know. At all.

You have no sense of cognitive dissonance when you cry about the "socialism" wrt to health care reform, but didn't say a goddamn word about socialism when the GOP pushed through an unfunded giant giveaway to the pharma industry...Medicare PartD anyone?

You'll cry about socialism when we talk about returning to the tax rates we had under that Che-loving radical also know as...Ronald Regan.

You'll cry about socialism when someone proposes an OPTION to choose insurance from a provider that doesn't have profit as its only motive.

The lack of self awareness is just stunning. STUNNING.

The right fears change, and will use any tactic available to stop it. To them all change is to be made scary and threatening. The left defintely has it's own issues, but since we are talking about Fox News, let's stay on topic.

con·serv·a·tive   /kənˈsɜrvətɪv/ Show Spelled
[kuhn-sur-vuh-tiv] Show IPA

–adjective
1. disposed to preserve existing conditions, institutions, etc., or to restore traditional ones, and to limit change.

Problem is, the definition of insanity (according to Einstein) is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Fritjof Capra wrote a great book called "The Turning Point". It is a study of the evolution of western, linear thinking, how it has effected every institution (Politics, Medicine, Physics), and how it can lead to very positive, and very negative, consequences. It has to be balanced by alternative ideas. Dynamic tension is positive and creates energy and creativity, devisiveness is negative and and saps it. I don't think anyone would argue that the Civil War was good for America, unless you subscribe to Nietzche. It is something we barely survived, and some people still don't know it is over.

A prime example is the medical/pharmaceutical industry. Where is the incentive to eliminate the desease when you make all your money off of treating the symptoms? There are factions that talk about pushing wellness, but then we let pharmaceutical companies start marketing things directly to consumers that can kill you for the very thing they are treating you for. Go figure.

Back to DMT's point up post....

According to Capra, every great Culture reaches a "Turning Point" where they are forced to confront the fact the world around them is changing faster than they are. They either innovate and move forward with the rest of the world, or they revert back to what used to work. The latter usually leads to a total collapse (see Roman Empire). This ain't the 18th century anymore. Things that don't change are dead.

Much of this thread is a perfect illustration of the loss of civility in political discourse. I'd like to see more give and take within parties and between parties. Even better, I would like to see issues discussed without any party label attached. It would be interesting to see how people feel if they get to evaluate an idea rather than choose from a position proffered by the dark side or the enlightened side.

The best part about those kinds of websites is that it's literally impossible to differentiate between what is propaganda, what is satire and what are ads for propaganda books/websites on them. It's just a giant mess.

Here is more specific information about the "illegal immigrant" DADT amendment.

Democrats in the Senate will offer an amendment to the bill overturning ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ rule for our armed forces. Included will be an overdue piece of legislation addressing one facet of illegal immigration. Thoughts of taking the problem head on before midterm elections would be unwise for both sides of the aisle.

According to Harry Reid, the DREAM Act amendment will ensure millions of children who grow up as Americans will be able to get the education they need to contribute to our economy. Students who came to America before age 16 and who have been here for five years will be able get their green card after they go to college or serve in the military. Many who have served in the military are already on the fast track to citizenship.

This guide appears on the Dream Act Portal:

The following is a list of specific requirements one would need in order to qualify for the current version of the DREAM Act.

Must have entered the United States before the age of 16 (i.e. 15 and younger)
Must have been present in the United States for at least five (5) consecutive years prior to enactment of the bill
Must have graduated from a United States high school, or have obtained a GED, or have been accepted into an institution of higher education (i.e. college/university)
Must be between the ages of 12 and 35at the time of application
Must have good moral character

CLEARLY, most Republican dipshits would be able to see that the bill does NOT,
no matter how much one want to simplify the facts, grant legal immigration
status to ALL "illegal" immigrants.

However, we have our very own dipshit here who has the intellect of a third grader.

Fattrad, that is CLASSIC Fox work right there, misinformation.

The article fails to mention the provision giving citicenship to illegal aliens included in the bill.

Along with this defeat, the Republicans also stopped passage of the DREAM Act, which as Care2 writer Laura Smith-Gary wrote would:

...provide a path to citizenship for young undocumented immigrants who came to the United States with their parents. The bill would grant them six years of temporary residency, and if they complete two years of college or serve honorably in the military during that time, they will be able to obtain permanent residency.

which was supported by many in the Republican Party, including Gen. Colin Powell.

"We can't be anti-immigration," Powell says in his interview, "because immigrants are fueling this country...Our minorities are not getting educated well enough now. Fifty percent of our minority kids are not finishing high school. We've got to invest in education. We should use the DREAM Act as one way to do it." He insists that while there's nothing wrong with wanting our southern border secure, and making sure immigrants enter the country in a "legal, safe manner," we must find a way to bring undocumented individuals currently in the country "out of the darkness."

Here's Powell talking about the Dream act.
Sorry Fat, but I'll take Powell's word over yours.
