I propose that a mini-ramp (3-4 feet high, 16 ft wide 21 feet long) at a MINIMUM should be installed at all middle and high schools.
School campuses were always skate parks where i grew up. Everything made of cement, rails, stairs and handi-ramps everywhere. Skete parks are designed after all the features my high school (and most i have ever visited) have anyway (except for the more modern rad-ass skate specific features they put in skate parks these days...). Schools were the places skating happened the most! until the man brought it down and bolted little plastic and steel bumps on all the curbs and rails to stop grinding.
We need more kids who know basic trig identities, not more kids with mad skatin' skilz.
Mutually exclusive? You're boring. And what does the love of math have to do with the price of oranges?!? Why cannot one love to skate and have time for Physics too?

fact is that outdoor climbing is out of reach for kids without money and cars. Give a kid a skateboard and they will find something to ride on
Word.
In my next life I will so try much harder to skateboard into rgold's classroom to become better mathematician .......
WBraun, I cant recall anything you've ever posted here that hasn't been clear, concise, and spot on! (Wow, a double negative... bad writing. Must stop climbing and go to English class, as climbing is making my writing skills poor. ha ha.)

Skate ramps at every school? That would be like putting in a sport climbing gym at every school.
We cannot encourage criminals to loiter on school grounds.

I skateboard... I went to a bicycle saftey class for running a stop sign the other day, there were a lot of skaters there that were ticketed for skating in the street period.. in california skaters are the same thing as pedestrions and are to remain on the side walks ONLY...
I think that is stupid, skating is fun and a great mode of transportation! agreed that schools should support it! skate on!!!!!!!!!

Skate boarding became too mainstream, suburban kids skating their suburban parks. Pink trucks and skinny jeans... Makes me sick! ;) (plus the little bastards are waayyy better than we were at that age.)
We used to skate all the time when I was a kid. Then I grew up, and realized how much I still love to skate, albeit longer boards and bigger hills. And yes, this is a crime.

Geez, get a grip, the comment was just a tongue-in-cheek throwaway. What is really boring is to kick the crap out of a straw man in response. But if you want to make a federal case out of it, I said nothing about mutual exclusivity and nothing about the relative intensities of math and physics love. (I myself participated in three team sports in high school, got involved in climbing, and loved math and physics as well, so would be the very last to suggest any kind of mutual exclusiveness.)
At heart my crack is about investment priorities in American education at time when many schools are underfunded.

Let us not forget the geometry of innocent flesh on the bone.
I was goin' about 55 mph and the damned front wheel started wobblin', pulled out my rule (slide that is). Quick recalc and I was In like Flynn.
However, most kids will always find a place to skate, not so a place to study math. The proof is left to the reader.
