Just out of re-hab from attending a mondo party in Hollywood with 15 rabid South Africans of British lineage.
Thought I was back in Camp 4! Fookin' ay, mate!
Everyone was sworn to eternal perdition if they spilled the
beans as we watched the games on replay for maximum drinking efficiency.

Richly deserved tie by the US. Donovan the Man o the Match for sure.
Onyewu huge at the back. England underachievers as usual...
Capello a wanker of huge proportions for not bringing Crouch on earlier.
Lampard was almost a total no-show! Credit the US for keeping Rooney in sight. Wright-Phillips playing left wing was a joke as he's no left foot
so the US didn't need to fear him driving to the touch line to cross so all they had to do was wait for his cutback move. Heskey is a fat old punter only good for 30 minutes at best although he did make a nice pass to Gerrard.

I have never really watched soccer before, aside from lots of great games little Braden and Anji played in Mariposa, but I am now a fan! Enjoyed the Nigeria/Argentina match today, and the USA/ England, my uneducated eye thought the level of play in the first was superior.

I like how it never stops, no commercials, and while rehabing a messed up knee it is good to view the ultimate in leg strength in action. Also the World Sport for everyone aspect is really moving.

That 1-1 draw was a HUGE victory for the USA! Now we enter the two easier games with one more point than expected.

Our ball control in the final 30 minutes of the match concerns me the most. Notice how everytime we had posession, the ball was in the air and not on the grass? Got to be able to play an entire 90 minutes.

MV- It is a huge victory. Play in the closing minutes was sub par. Those boys looked beat. Dempsey was up and down the field and was haggard by the end. I loved Altidores stalling getting off the pitch when he was subbed, he got the full escort off by the ref.

Man of the Match= Tim Howard by miles. Worlds greatest Keeper? At least top three.

I have to say, the US looked solid. This game will launch them to further victories!

Peter, hope you are recovering well. What a great oppurtunity to watch the comp. Take advantage. If the opening games peak your interest, wait until the final rounds happen.

Serbia looking nervous and disorganized, Ghana being very aggressive ... but still 0 - 0.

Howard looked very poised and confident yesterday, great goalkeeping!

Its kind of disappointing to watch for 90+ minutes only to have the games end in a tie. But I'm a soccer newb, what do I know.

How do they handle ties/draws in the World Cup? Who advances, and who doesn't?

In the playoff-games after the first group phase you'll have 2 x 15 minutes extra time if the game is drawn and if it's still drawn then there will be a penalty shootout.

Good Times!!

Wow Argentina looked... exciting, and...dramatic.
I think there will be more drama to come w/ this team.
Messi is such a presence!!
And here come the Germans!!
W/ Arg/ Nig. they played "positional" and waited to see what eachothers moves were, with the Germans, if you have the ball, THEY ARE COMING TO GET IT!!
England?.... England.

Certainly NOT boring folks!!

Cheers to all WC fans out there!!

A.

p.s James, I think we met in Thailand ,way back, I was w/ Taos crew (Mr. Foley)

Peace to you, from B.C.!

The first team who figures out how to string two goals together in the same game is going to be un-stoppable.

Tim Howard was definitely the man o' the match on the US side VS England. IMO, US was lucky to tie. If they don't get their act together in the back, they will not make it beyond the round of 16. Fortunately they kept Rooney out of the game and that was probably their defensive strategy for this match. Sorry but I really didn't see Donovan do much. He had several chances on Free Kicks and Corners but nothing even came close. To win at the world cup level, you need to have a very disciplined back that can maintain a line of defense and play their opponent offside at any time and never be outnumbered in the box.

TT,
Donovan was everywhere! He made some amazing passes to the punters who
couldn't do anything with them which has always been our weak point - finishing.

I was so underwhelmed by Argentina they're outta my top 4 faves list.
They've been supplanted by Deutschland who were aptly described by Martin
Tyler as "a well-oiled machine". That Turkish kid Mesut Özil is an awesome
talent. Podolski is healthy and humming as are Schweinsteiger and Der Neue Bomber Muller.

I'm dragging my sorry butt outta the sack at Oh dark thirty (0430) to watch Holland - my #3 pick.
Then my wife's Cameroun will show the Japanese it is better to be good than just fit and well organized.
Then I'll go to work - I'll need the rest.

I agree Donovan was at both ends of the field. In fact I thought he was helping out quite a bit on D in the 2nd half.

Loved watching USA - England in a local pub here in Edinburgh. The Scottish crowd overwhelmingly cheered for the US (as expected, ABE - Anyone But England).

Edit: Howard was the best!
