Hey Hartouni… Get a Hood! ;)
Great video! Nice beginning and ending. Explains the “nosy” parking job in Gary’s photos… and then you backed up… Hope to see you up there this year, for sure!!
Thanks for the thread, Flouride!

Minerals, if you think that kinetic closeup is startling, you should have been in the copilot's seat for the full e-ticket!

A nice breeze flowing into these parts with this thread! It's all good... I liked Ed's video... Got all the familiar landmarks and the feel of that drive.
Good stuff.

Compare and contrast....big time!
This is what Tuolumne Meadows looked like last year opening weekend (Memorial Day):
Here's how it looked opening weekend of '10, and a week later:
Pretty significant difference!

It'll be interesting to see this coming weekend how much has melted off.
And when they finally plow the pullouts for Fairview & Medlicott.

Hello Fluoride,
"WAY more ski folks than climbers this weekend. That's gonna change in the next few weeks."
I thought it was the same people, different gear. No? :-)
The Hubers kick ass on skis (some skis are even named after them), and as for Dave T (Turner), just read his report on Patagonia kite skiing. I'm still shaking 3 months later. Skiing in the Yos backcountry this year to climb something... cooool. The opportunity is there, and rare. Sounds like a dream.
Cheers to all who take it. ;-)

I’m stranded until August, but these few fine shots bring back that fresh whiff of the spring and wildness of my favorite place anywhere.
My best guess is that this was opening week, 1969. My dad drove us boys up to the Meadows for a weekend campout with the obligatory scramble up Lambert. Back then, there wasn’t a gate or kiosk at the entrance to the campground – if you could make it in, it was open for use. I recall slush pits in the road and snow banks in our site. Plus bears, plenty of firewood around, and no store or water. It was great.
