I found the body yesterday.
I have emailed one of the family members.
While James' scenario is inaccurate and exaggerated, it is true that I did not make the report until some hours afterwards.
I have no excuse for not acting immediately- the experience was surreal and shocking, and the impact is only beginning to sink in.

Tyler returned my call Thursday at 1:15 from Yosemite. He had helped me with my website and computer updates the day before. I knew that he had gotten his 'dream job' but was surprised to hear that he was up there already.
I was hoping that he would work with me on developing the permaculture aspects of our farm, when he came back to the Central Valley for school.
He was brilliant and unique in the best of ways. I am so sorry I didn't take time to walk the farm with him on Wednesday. It seemed like there would be plenty of time for that.
This 55 year old learned alot from him in the very few hours I was in his presence.
If it's okay, we may have a small remembrance of Tyler by the Merced River on Sunday. That is the quieter day of our annual festival, and that is what he was helping with.
My heart hurts; yours must be breaking.

I don't fault you for not reporting it 'til later , but he said you guys took pictures . That struck me as kind of weird - unless you were already anticipating informing sar about the location (?) . Sorry you had to cross paths with this , and sorry to the family / friends of course , but the kid seems to have had a pure vision of adventure up in that remote part of the valley . We should mourn more the people who never dare venture beyond thier campsite than this guy . At least he got after it and tried .

I am quite certain that if I found a body I would take pictures because.
A. I am a photographer. it's what I do.
B. I would want to document exactly what was there when I first found the scene so that if anything changed in the time it took the athoritys to get there that it would be recorded.
I find no fault in the takeing of photos. How a photo is used is where the moral decisions become a factor.

If adventure sports were safer then they wouldn't be adventure sports. Still, when the bill comes due it is a sad and tragic reminder of this.
My deepest condolences to the family of what was obviously a fine young man.

Terrible news in so many ways. I lost a dear friend on Sunday who was in his early 70's -- and that seemed much too young. Now this. My deepest sympathy and prayers to all who knew Tyler.
I think now is a time to reflect, rather than to judge. I have pity for Jay and company. I'm glad I didn't come upon so gruesome a scene, because I don't know that I would be thinking particularly clearly if I did. He was courageous enough to post up here, and it sounds to me that the hurt from his self-condemnation will exceed that from the condemnation from the self-righteous. This is a complete tragedy. I, for one, need time to mourn.

i am very sorry to hear of your sad loss, and my condolences
and prayers for you all at this hard time...

i am very thankful though that someone found him, it would have
been an awful long battle of months, perhaps, if not... :(

one to go through this sad find... :(
